A delegation of the J&K Veterinary Students Association, the veterinary wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA), today met Agriculture Minister Javid Ahmad Dar amid continuing protests by veterinary students over their demand for an increase in stipend.

The Government cannot keep playing with the future of our youth. I stand with J&K’s 140 veterinary interns, the first defenders of public health, who are fighting for a fair stipend and basic safety equipment.

If the government has enough resources for film festivals, why invoke “financial implications” when it comes to supporting our youth? I urge HCM @adbullah_Omer @JavedDar_NC Sb to take up this issue immediately and bring stipends in line with national norms. If the government fails to act, we will raise the matter strongly in the Assembly.

It was reassuring to learn that he had already met with the students and had directed the university administration to initiate the matter through the proper channel and ensure that their genuine grievances are addressed appropriately.

The concerns raised by the JKVSA interns deserve a fair and compassionate consideration. The demand for enhancement of internship allowance has been pending for some time, and the disparity with veterinary institutions elsewhere is understandably a concern.
Requesting the government to kindly look into the matter and engage with the interns to find a reasonable solution. Their concerns deserve to be heard.

Sir, please address the long-pending veterinary internship stipend issue of SKUAST-Jammu & SKUAST-Kashmir. Our stipend has remained unrevised since 2011 and is only ₹6,000–₹9,000/month, while several institutions pay ₹20,000+. Kindly intervene
