Great that @superdrug has stopped selling Ahava cosmetics from illegal settlements. But settlement trade should be banned by the UK government. With my comments here. Thanks to @taaffems for covering the story https://t.co/EtdNqMjFHh

🚨🚨🚨EXCL Catherine West speaks to the New Statesman about her leadership bid, including:
Party leadership begged her to delay this move until Tuesday, after the PM’s reset speech
On triggering a contest: “I haven't actually even looked at the rules because I don't actually want to do this”
She says she has been “inundated” with support from MPs but “I haven't actually looked at who they are”
Dismisses anger from leadership camps that were blindsided: “some people will be upset with me because of the risk, because some of them had a plan about, you know, in six months time, we're gonna do this, and then we're gonna do that. Sorry, that's just too late.”
Says Andy Burnham cannot be PM: “I'm sorry for people who had a big plan about particular candidates who one day will be, you know, an MP and all that sort of thing… I really like Andy, but he's not here on the spot, so he can't really do it”
She says she is both a “lone wolf” and a “stalking horse” but that: “You know what sometimes happens to stalking horses? They become the candidate”
She will not back down until other candidates publicly announce - not private assurances or backroom deals: “They've got to be open, they need to be upfront like me.”
Thinks next PM could be an unknown MP and even one from the 2024 intake - thinks her shock move could trigger a more interesting contest
A friend losing her council seat was part of her reason for going now
Across the country yesterday, so many hard working Labour Councillors lost their seats through no fault of their own. I want to thank them for their service and dedication. 🧵
This is the most insane and absurd definition of an ‘imminent threat’ I have ever heard in my life. Our ally and proxy, Israel, that we arm and fund, was about to illegally attack Iran so we joined in the attack because that illegal attack would have led to an attack on us
Chaired my last Environment Committee meeting 🥹 it's been an honor to oversee so much change in the borough over the last 4 years:
♻️Hugely increase in our recycling rate
🍏Introducing food waste recycling
🔋Net-Zero by 2043
🌳Park run in Battersea Park
💨Vast AQ improvements

A 3-month-old baby girl died yesterday after her tiny body froze from the bitter cold inside a tent unfit even for animals. She died in her parents’ arms, and the so-called "civilized" world did nothing.
No major news outlet reported it, no influencer spoke up as if the child was never human. We are unseen, uncounted, dying as silent numbers.
This is not a single tragedy. I was there. I saw children trembling, barefoot, wearing torn clothes, in collapsing tents.
If there’s no urgent action, more innocent children will die from the cold buried under your silence.
That baby girl won’t be the last victim…she’s just the first of this deadly winter.
Happy New Year from Wandsworth Council 🎉
