Today, 40 Associated Press guild-covered employees across the U.S. who accepted buyouts left the newsroom for the final time. We’ve been told layoffs will be coming, with no clear timeline.
In solidarity, our members in office, at home, and in the field wore their union red today.
A hall of fame class of journalists is leaving @AP today — 40 reporters and photo/videographers who've taken buyouts as our US news operation shrinks. They've broken untold stories, captured searing images, held power to account and made us all smarter. We'll miss them dearly.
AP journalists in the U.S. are on the frontlines providing essential news coverage and documenting history each and every day.
AP was there because WE were there.
But more than 120 AP guild covered employees across the country were offered buyouts on April 6, and layoffs could be coming. And that makes the guild wonder, will AP be there for you in the future?

Yesterday, travelers complained of hours-long wait times at the security checkpoint in the New Orleans airport.
Today, some travelers say it is smooth sailing. But in social media posts, MSY continues to urge people traveling Monday to arrive to the airport 3 hours early.
I’m flying out of the New Orleans airport. Here’s how long it took to get through security.\\\
I just passed through security at airport. Lines are now down and flowing as normal. Thank you TSA and airport team. https://t.co/za8iAHDEpA
As Louisiana kicks off the 2026 Legislative Session, Gov. Jeff Landry tells lawmakers he wants to eliminate income tax in the state.
Currently, nine U.S. states have no state income tax on wages: AK, FL, NV, NH, SD, TN, TX, WA, and WY.
During his State of the State, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry tells lawmakers the Ten Commandments will be placed in schools this year.
He says students who don't read the commandments "will likely read the criminal code."

I’ve been blessed to work with my amazing colleagues at AP over the past 20 years. I’m thrilled about this next chapter leading Arkansas Advocate’s incredibly talented newsroom.

Amid a wave of Planned Parenthood closures across the country, Louisiana's two clinics shuttered their doors Tuesday — ending medical services, education and advocacy the organization has provided some of the state's most vulnerable residents for 40 years.

An incredibly powerful photo essay.
With the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, one @AP photographer projected some of the most gripping images from the deadly disaster onto places and neighborhoods as they appear now.

BREAKING: Four journalists, including a freelancer who worked with AP, are among eight killed by an Israeli strike on southern Gaza's Nasser Hospital. https://t.co/F2U4K6ZOfh
Four journalists were killed by an Israeli strike on a Gaza hospital today, including Mariam Dagga, a freelancer with the @AP. She has a 12-year-old son, who was evacuated from Gaza earlier in the war.
She was a true hero, like all of our Palestinian colleagues in Gaza.
