@IrishRail Good morning
Are bus transfers in operation on the Tralee -Dublin line today ? Or have normal train services resumed ? Departing Killarney 11.40am
@IrishRail Missed the Mallow connection to Tralee. Travelling with elderly passengers. No mobility assistance unless booked in advance but of course there was no advance notifications of all of this despite online bookings. A nightmare journey.
Voters have delivered an historic rejection of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil and a victory for the left. Despite a negative campaign of fears and smears from the political establishment, people appear to have delivered the largest Presidential vote ever - for Catherine Connolly. This is a vote for the values she embodies - defending our neutrality, opposing war and genocide, and ending the normalisation of homelessness and inequality.
It is a vote for an Ireland which values our language and our history of anti-colonial struggle and solidarity. It is also a vote against Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael and their budget that delivered for big developers and fast food outlets by pushing more working-class people into poverty. The campaign stood with and gave voice to carers, disabled people, communities and young people who have been left behind by FF and FG.
The biggest single issue in this election was Irish neutrality. Again and again, Catherine was criticised for having the guts to call out the re-armament taking place across Europe and the role of the US in arming Israeli genocide. In contrast, Heather Humphreys refused to criticise what she called our allies. The people have decisively chosen to defend neutrality and stand against militarism and war. The government must heed this vote and drop their plans to remove the Triple Lock and eradicate what is left of our neutrality.
The mass movement that was galvanised behind Catherine Connolly must continue beyond today’s result. There is a lesson for all of the left - if we unite and mobilise people, we can win. For People Before Profit, we want to continue this cooperation on issues like neutrality, Palestine, housing and cost of living, as well as looking towards the next general election. People need to be offered a very clear choice - continuation of the over 100-year rule of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, or the first left government in the history of the state.
We are now calling on all those who supported Catherine Connolly to jointly organise a major conference of the left to discuss the next steps of continuing and deepening left co-operation.

Protests have erupted in several cities across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East in response to Israel's illegal seizure of ships and crew members of the Global Sumud Flotilla
Israel is on high alert as Global Sumud Flotilla broke through Israeli blockade and entered Gaza's territorial waters carrying weapons such as bread, milk and medicine.
⚒️ BREAKING: Italian Union Threatens ‘General Strike Without Notice’ if Flotilla Blocked
Italy’s Unione Sindacale di Base (USB) - the Rank-and-File Union - has announced a “permanent mobilization” in 100 squares across the country in solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla. In Rome, the protests will begin Friday in Piazza dei Cinquecento.
Following attacks yesterday involving drones and 12 explosions on 9 different flotilla ships carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza, USB warned that if authorities “try again to stop the flotilla, the response will be immediate: general strike without notice.”
USB is one of Italy’s largest independent unions, with tens of thousands of members concentrated in the public sector, logistics, transport, health care, and precarious or temporary work. Founded in 2010, it is known for its militant politics: strongly anti-austerity, anti-NATO, and anti-war. It has led strikes against privatization, labor precarity, and international wars.
On September 22, USB led Gaza solidarity strikes that shut down ports and transport hubs across Italy. Its new call raises the stakes: organized labor is now threatening nationwide walkouts to defend the flotilla’s right to sail.
