Q6: We’re very fortunate to work in a district that offers so many PD/collaboration opportunities and employment options for teachers in the summer - it’s almost impossible to turn off my “teacher brain” in the summer...and I’m 👌 with that #EBedchat
Q5: I always discuss the difference in summer rigor & school year rigor. No one is expecting 30 minutes of reading each night along with stop & jots and write longs. It’s okay to take the time to reread a favorite book or try something new. Takes the pressure off. #EBedchat
Q5: Celebration and reflection are huge. Making students aware of how much they’ve learned and grown can only inspire them to continue over the summer months #EBedchat
@mathmrsdeluca Big picture - yes! I always hope my students realize that what I’m teaching them is so much more than moving up running record levels and getting good grades on assessments. It’s so much bigger than that!
A2: June is my time to take risks. You have to get super creative with the change in schedule anyways, so I use that time to try new things and that gets me motivated and excited #rebelwithoutacause#EBedchat
Q4: My goal for June is always to help my students make summer reading plans. I want them to realize that reading is part of life inside and outside of school #EBedchat
@liznck Good for you for keeping up with book clubs at the end of the year! I always find that I have such a hard time managing behaviors and keeping the conversations focused and I usually come up with conversation alternatives.
@tracy_weisbrod@mrgranito@WarnsdorferEB Totally agree! Irwin is currently fundraising to put a gazebo by our playground. Looking forward to some outdoor independent reading next year!
A1: The weather! It’s so hard to look out the window and not think about all of the fun things that we could be doing outside (like sitting on the beach eating ice cream). I don’t mind sitting in a classroom as much in the dead of winter #EBedchat
Hi everyone! Sara Yaffie - Reading Specialist at Irwin. Looking forward to spending some much needed quiet time at the beach once school gets out!! 🏖#EBedchat
Day 10: I’m so glad you posted this question because I don’t use much else besides “old school” email and phone calls. I’m excited to hear about what other platforms are available #EBedchat
A5: think about what your end product intentions were and devise a different way to achieve the same outcome. The consistent use of technology is a relatively new concept and we’ve all got some great “old school” instructional strategies in our teaching toolbox #EBedchat
