Absolutely horrified by this, but I reached out to his team last week as I was so worried about this happening. No matter what everyone thinks about this man and his career, he did not deserve to be hounded and smeared to death. I am already seeing gleeful comments about his death, claiming he was mentally ill, that he caused this himself, that he deserved it, and claiming the immense media storm around this is not responsible for his death.
I will not have been the only person who saw this death coming a mile off - who could possibly have survived this??
A reminder that this man committed no crime - he was hounded to death by media, and millions of people on social media who were criticising him, digging up information about him, speculating, investigating, finding new people to interview and ask about him, laughing and mocking him - and let’s be honest - we don’t even know what is true and what isn’t yet, but it’s too late. Again.
We treat abusers, murderers and rapists with more compassion than this. We need serious conversations about media conduct and the role of endless reports, speculation and op-eds that target one person repeatedly.
Did this man lie about his career? Maybe he did. Maybe he made the entire thing up.
Did he deserve to die? Absolutely not. Not in a million years.
This death is tragic and horrific. I just hope we don’t now find out that much of what was reported and speculated on was filled with lies and targeted harassment of this man, because then we are in extremely deep water. Again.
Italy has been turning Parmesan into working capital since 1953.
Parmigiano-Reggiano must age for at least 12 months, and many wheels sit for 24 to 36. Farmers pay for milk, labor and storage years before receiving the full sale price.
Credito Emiliano solved that delay by accepting unfinished wheels as collateral.
Producers deliver cheese to a climate-controlled warehouse and borrow against its future value. Specialists inspect, rotate and age every wheel. Repay the loan and the producer gets it back. Default and the bank can sell it.
Extreme heat now reaches both sides of that loan.
Temperatures above 40°C can cut milk production by roughly 10%. Meanwhile, electricity use at aging warehouses has risen about 30% as refrigeration works harder to protect the collateral.
A mortgage remains valuable while sitting still. Parmesan gains value only if someone keeps it alive under precise conditions for years.
Italy turned aging cheese into a financial asset.
Now temperature control is part of credit risk.

The most valuable asset of the next decade won’t be attention. It will be verified trust, knowing who is real. And nobody holds more of it than the people communities already turn to.
The world is about to learn what a community leader is worth.

I've been working this issue for months, pulling in practices from across the pond, building ground mobilisation and community infrastructure, new investment models.
Would welcome the chance to talk about what's working and what the UK could borrow. 🧵
@lisanandy DCMS announced UK support for the local news crisis back in March, the Local News Fund is worth up to £12m over two years.
Compare that to the US: a coalition of philanthropic funders (Press Forward) has pledged over $500m and already disbursed $400m into local news—
For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter.
AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.
The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.
