These are so important for educators to be aware of. My child shows or has shown all of these traits throughout her schooling. So important for us to be aware of how school is experienced by autistic students .
As educators we want to make sure our learners have the tools and options to share with us their learning so that we can give them feedback and we can find out what barriers they’re facing so we can help them on their journey.

When we’re looking at young people being unable to go to school it’s important that schools work WITH families to look at reasons WHY so our young people can feel comfortable & happy at school. That's the aim, not prioritising a mark in the attendance register. #SEND#Autism
How can I be neuro-affirming with 30 kids in my class?
We often hear from teachers that one of the primary obstacles preventing them from meeting everyone's needs is the issue of large class sizes. 1/
This is the hardest thing as a parent. As educators we HAVE to seek to understand parents, not judge or criticise. It’s a partnership not a power struggle. Build trust, be curious, learn about the child. Work with families not against them. #connectionbeforecorrection
Sometimes I lost my instincts to those around me.
There were expectations of what it meant to be a ‘good parent’ even if I knew these were not best for my child.
Doing things differently meant doing what my child needed not what others thought best. 1/
@_MissingTheMark@naomicfisher This is fantastic news. Your posts and webinars have enabled me to embrace parenting I knew was right for my child, but never read about it parenting books . Thank you so much for validating my family ❤️
Conversations about learning should not be starting with "What program are we using?"
They should be starting with:
- Who are we teaching?
- What do we hope they'll learn?
- How will we cultivate an environment where learners feel safe to take risks and learn?
1/5 It's possible to predict people's authoritarian/racist attitudes just by knowing what they value most in children: obedience, respect for elders, and good manners ... as opposed to curiosity, independence, and considerateness...
Setting goals for the upcoming school year this summer for your team?
Try this:
Pour all the energy into 2 initiatives-
Building positive learner relationships
Designing the highest quality learning
They are what makes an okay Tier 1 into an extraordinary Tier 1.
The most toxic relationships aren't the purely negative ones. They're the mixed ones.
It hurts more to be let down by people you sometimes like than by people you always dislike.
If you can't fix an ambivalent tie, it may be time to shield yourself.

When offering texts to our students (and colleagues), we have to leverage digital technology. Offer hard copies to those students who thrive with a book in their hands while ensuring access to ebooks, audio versions, and paired text sets. #UDL#Reading
