@GCchat - Please consider taking a survey on how you/your workplace utilizes genetic counseling assistants! Love to see this, and so excited for my old colleague - the incredible Renee Rider (JD, MS, CGC) who is working on her dissertation!

#NSGC23 can we arrange a volunteer list of fast GC typists to transcribe talks real time? The AI software being used isn’t up to the task especially with specialized terms in genetics and speakers who have speech differences.
@hankgreen As a Genetic Counselor, I often play the game of: how long after learning what I do will someone spontaneously come up with eugenics to me? Like a shocking fraction of the time people will say something eugenics-y and they do *not* like it when you point out it is eugenics.
I am begging you to understand that black women being less focused on prevention + more focused on faith is not bc we don’t want prevention but bc we are NOT OFFERED it and have grown accustomed to not being heard in healthcare. Interpretation is key. Please. #GeneChat
@SGreenbergGC Trax to 900 south Station (~15 min from Hyatt Regency)- within a block you have Templin Family Brewing, Fisher Brewing, Water Witch Bar, Scion Cidery, The Pearl. Oh and Central 9th Market which arguably has the best breakfast sandwiches in the city (Homemade Foccacia) #ACMGMtg23
Well-I hate the title. But they make some good points. Patients aren’t getting nuanced convos with providers who know to discuss things like Positive Predictive value. And labs are businesses. More evidence we need more Genetic Counselors IMO #GeneChat https://t.co/76ol8oLNS3
In one short hour the number of signatures on the constituent letter has increased from 1,895 to 2,685!! Let's keep it going, can we get to 3,000 signed on by Monday?!? Remember anyone who supports genetic counselors can sign! #NSGC22@GeneticCouns
@GoodGenesGC Yeah! Like crazy awesome. Heather A Colley, M.S. is a program director of the National Human Genome Research Institute (she is here) and said to contact her if interested too…junkish@[email protected]
#NSGC2022#GeneChat I remembered my snazzy shirts, and had one positive conversation about abortion rights with someone while out and about at lunch. That plus all these talks…feeling accomplished.
25 states have “high” or “very high” levels of respiratory illness, according to CDC’s #FluView report released today. Laboratory data indicate #flu is contributing to a significant proportion of circulating respiratory viruses. Read more: https://t.co/upgRKTqmfI
In light of the draft of a leaked majority Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade, I want to call your attention to the people that would be impacted most by the end of legalized abortion across the United States. 🧵:
We knew it was coming- still so so hard to read that this is really gonna happen. Those with resources and money, yeah - they are gonna be able to access necessary healthcare. Millions of other women won’t. Heartbreaking.
The Supreme Court has voted to strike down Roe v. Wade, according to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito and obtained by POLITICO.
“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” Alito writes. https://t.co/nl3JFLx9xg
Thank you @amyklobuchar for co-sponsoring the Access to Genetic Counselors act S.1450 (HR 2144). We appreciate your support of GCs and the role we play in healthcare. @GeneticCouns#genechat
How do I know companies are desperate for workers? I keep getting cold calls for laboratory positions from a 10 year old resume still on Careerbuilder. Sorry - I am a genetic counselor now. #SorryNotSorry#lookslikeImadeit#GeneChat
