💲We pay the highest prices for electricity in the world (inclusive of standing charges, levies, and tax)
We also get the highest media spin on the subject.
Here are 7 other related issues our media won't discuss:
1. 💲 Ireland pays wind farms to shut down and reserve gas plants to start up.. doubling our cost
2. 🔋Batteries are not a backup, not even functioning as storage at grid scale. They can’t power a country and we cant shut reserve plant with them. Reserve capacity costs are ballooning.
3. 🇮🇪For Ireland, more wind doesn’t mean more energy.. it now means more 💲waste and curtailment cost. The effects of deploying new wind are diminishing and have been at 33% of total throughout this decade.
4. 📉Negative or zero market prices are not an indication of cheap power... they’re taxpayer-funded illusions. Wholesale and retail costs are now completely decoupled.
5. 🇬🇧 Imported electricity (from equally expensive Britain) HIDES its carbon.. while our “cleaner” stats are cooked. We offshore the polluting effects of this electricity just as we offshore other industry when they can't set up business here. We are still consuming and polluting almost as much as we've always been.
6. 🌳Green certificates are just paper tricks, not real renewable energy. Large companies buy them to simply appear greener. Even your electricity supplier does this
7. 🇪🇺💲€20 billion+ in EU fines to the state (taxpayer) are coming in 2032 because our targets will definitely be missed.
Another court case ruling against Ireland is looming and although some good things have happened to reform the NPWS, we are still not seeing enough results on the ground @noonan_malcolm

@FelicityCloake @rhiannonlucyc This may not be v helpful of me,but I am 80% (😬) sure that having measured lidded and non-lidded saucepans of boiling potatoes for a TV show once, we found the difference in cooking speeds only varied by a minute?! 🤔
Raised bogs, threatened farmland birds, marine protected areas, so many elements of Ireland’s natural envir in need of better protection. Meanwhile officials recognise high level aggression against campaigners & envir NGOs

Data centres accounted for 73% of the increase in the consumption of electricity over the years from 2015 to 2020, new CSO figures show. https://t.co/RJV8QbJooX
@hollowlegs I did the mad-sounding scent training obsessively and got smell/taste back after 24hrs. Different for everyone I know so undoubtedly not helpful but I varied the sniffing things & must be things you know smell of so well you can almost imagine it. Good luck!
Really enjoyed today’s #BlackstairsNature event on nature restoration and conservation. Such a stunning venue too in @HuntingtonCastl. Many thanks for the invitation to be there. So many interesting contributions from the experts on hand. #Biodiversity#Farmlands
