This Spanish city centre has been car-free for 20 years. 12k people have moved into the centre since the ban. The Mayor says vehicles don’t have more right to public space than people — & he’s been re-elected 4 times since banning cars. Pontevedra via @WEF
@PeterStefanovi2 Also - even if that was a genuine benefit- it is a silly argument because nobody knew COVID was coming when the Brexit debate was going on. Unless Brexiters had a crystal ball and foresaw this mythical vaccine advantage and decided Brexit was a good idea on that basis
@DeborahMeaden Well said. I valued my freedom of a movement as a member of the EU just as I valued the contributions of Europeans living here. Madness.
@RishiSunak@EDarwinAcademy The word “Erasmus” brings back happy memories of when we were still members of the EU enjoying so many more rights and freedoms than we have today. It is a shame the children at this school will not experience the opportunities Erasmus offered students before the Brexit madness
Huge elephant in the room is #Brexit. Hunt didn't once mention how it's contributed to 4% productivity drop, 15% trade drop, 6% food price increase, lower wages, workforce shortages & highest inflation in G7. Why won't Govt call it out? #AutumnStatement@BestForBritain@euromove
@sajidjavid The government. All children should be able to safely walk or cycle to school on safe, designated paths. Healthier, safer, greener. Why do drivers have greater rights than cyclists or pedestrians? So wrong.
@MartinSLewis@bbc5live You have a huge platform. Could you use it to also talk about how saving energy and using free, active transport can save the planet whilst at the same time save our health and save money? Thank you.
@RishiSunak I want to trust you to ensure that tackling climate change and biodiversity loss is central to every Cabinet decision taken under your leadership. There is no economy without ecology.
Today, Boris Johnson & Liz Truss visit the queen in Balmoral.
If they had taken the train, it would have been 56kgCO2e. If they’d at least shared a plane, it would have been 4 tonnes of CO2e. They've taken a private jet EACH. That's 8t of CO2e.
A bleak start to Truss premiership
@JolyonMaugham And surely every household should be helped to use it’s own harvested rain water to flush loos, water gardens and wash clothes before they force us to drink chemically treated sewage? This would reduce flooding and energy use too.
