A8: One thing I can do "tomorrow" to prepare our students is to continue to educate myself. Also, create displays promoting digital citizenship. #sau24bookchat
A7: I loved how Lee Bryan started his plan of action with a PD session for the teachers. This is a great way to get into the classroom. Talk about opening doors. #sau24bookchat
@bethlby72 I too love the 2 thruths and a lie idea. My local (public) librarian does this when she visits the schools. My own children come home from school and tell me all about the true story,-which a lot of the time happens to be crazier than the lie.
@SueRD5 I'm with you about not using my phone for news. I feel like when i'm in the "news" mindset, I tend to jump on my computer. But i'll use my phone to keep up-to-date with my friends and family on social media.
A6: This chapter was great! I loved all the resources. The one that stood out to me was Newseum ED flow chart, "Is this story share worthy?" I love it because it's visually appealing and easy to follow. #sau24bookchat
A:5 I erred on the skeptical side when it came to the assessment. I knew that there were people who believed chocolate milk came from brown cows, but should the fact that it contained "misleading" statistics make it #fakenews? #sau24bookchat
@LibrarianDebi Same here. I am going to make more of an effort to be open to news on social media. I'll still fact check it, but will be more open to such sources of news.
@lprewandowski I thought that was interesting too. I have to admit that I fall into this same trap. My "friends" on FB are mainly people i have not seen nor spoken with in nearly 20 years. #friends
A4: Out of the core principles I believe arming students with language that allows them to challenge ideas, not attack may prove most challenging. It requires a lot of work on both the senders and recipients part. #societalcorevalue#sau24bookchat
A3. One thing that surprised me was thinking of social media as a #reliable piece of evidence. I have a tendency to disregard information I find on a majority of social media sites. #sau24bookchat
@pgarrity Yes, and discerning fact from fiction is made more difficult with the addition of our own preexisting beliefs and biases. One must go "the extra mile" in order to verify the source.
