@DrJeanForney @EmmaAusten20@krug_isabel Yes I agree!! Part of our aim was to determine whether the clusters corresponded to DSM-5 severity indices. However, the DSM privileges frequency, rather than multiple methods of purging, when determining severity. I think no. of methods is more informative!
‼️New Paper Alert ‼️
Lead by @krug_isabel we used cluster analyses in a large sample of individuals diagnosed with Purging Disorder (PD) to assess categorical and dimensional symptom differences within this group. Three distinct PD symptom clusters emerged.
However! Further research is needed as the frequency of purging behaviours may not be the defining feature of PD prognosis. Therefore, defining PD severity by this metric may not be clinically informative. Link to article here!! https://t.co/YkPvjXNWeI
The three clusters showed some correspondence to the DSM-5 severity index for purging behaviours for Bulimia Nervosa (see bar charts). Cluster 1 emerged as a milder form of PD, while Cluster 3 was characterised by a more severe presentation of PD.
I featured on the Nail Your Nutrition podcast and spoke about disordered eating in athletes, my own lived experience as an elite distance runner and all I’ve been doing in my PhD these last few years. Find it here https://t.co/rRRAyXRHxE
People with PCOS are consistently told to first + foremost focus on weight loss to manage the condition + its symptoms, to qualify for access to reproductive medicine, + shamed when weight loss doesn’t happen long term. It’s time to review the #PCOS weight science. A thread.
