been a month since I moved back to ox after my year away from the city & academia! been a big but smooth transition back to my life here & feeling v blessed to have these gorgeous spaces to linger in & even more blessed to have had the warmest welcome back from gorgeous people 🫶🏻
@PhilEmmerson@RGS_IBGhe Thank you Phil for being such a support and encouragement as I stumbled through publishing as an undergrad. I feel so blessed to have crossed paths with you even briefly, and been on the receiving end of such genuine warmth, compassion and care in an otherwise intimidating space.
((I could go on about how unnecessarily difficult & tedious it is for international students to take breaks from their programmes, whether to prioritise their mental health or otherwise, and the paperwork & logistical nightmare that ensues, but that’s a chat for another day 🫣))
have made the hard decision to take a break from my phd for a little bit to take care of myself, rest, recover & heal ♥️ I decided on this a while ago but the proper paperwork is now almost done & whilst I feel disappointed, I’m also feeling so relieved !!!
with that said, I am very excited to be returning to ox and the phd later this year, albeit on a completely different project but one that is very much close to my heart ♥️♥️
@RyanCentner Congratulations Ryan!!✨ being taught by you was such a privilege — your support, advice and encouragement always meant so much to me then & continues to inspire me now!
POLITICS OF CITATION: As Rita Segata suggests, to acknowledge the authorship of someone isn't to assert ownership over a discourse, as has sometimes been thought, but to give due importance to the complexity of the historical context from which an author's ideas emerge.
Epistemic racism/extractivism happens all the time...when someone "picks your brain" yet never cites you. When professors steal ideas from students. When communities become "data mines." When decolonial theories are co-opted. Coloniality of knowledge is an everyday practice.
absolutely thrilled to have my words included in this book !!!!🫶🏻🫶🏻
I am so thankful to @cheng_yien for providing international students with a dedicated space to articulate, document and productively process the intense emotions of that specific moment in such a cathartic way.
thinking through the theme of ‘freedom’, I wrestle with my decision to leave for my MSc in the middle of the pandemic.
by exploring what ‘freedom’ meant in different contexts, I unpack the relativeness of freedom, and how freedom is affectively charged and felt.
