I'm worried & can't stop thinking about the state of our county. People are skint, disillusioned & angry - they want someone to blame, need change & crave hope. Opportunistic, self-serving capitalists, politicians, influencers & media outlets are exploiting their chance to stir up hatred, grab power & make money. They know exactly want they're doing. The flags are an easy, overt & contagious way to unite & encourage belonging to a cause that will not actually do what people are being told it will do. It's not immigrants/asylum seekers that are the biggest problem - it's the fact that things have felt tough for too many people for way too long, the poverty rates in our country are outrageous - and there is no end in sight. This divisive whipping up of anger & hatred is destroying communities at exactly the time that we need to come together. I worry for the future of our children - we need unity, we need investment, we need a new plan that we can all get behind before we go so far down this toxic path that there is no coming back.

A summary of my son's first game refereeing a game this morning. For reference my son is 15, it was an U9 game and my son has no connection to either clubs.
He's been called a "a blatant cheat" "blind" "stupid" "doesn't know what he's doing"
In addition he's been spoken to in a manner I can only describe as aggressive and Intimidating for things like giving a throw, allowing a player to re take a foul throw, not giving a penalty when a child tripped on the ball and was not fouled.
My son left the pitch today and said this to me in the car, I'm never doing that again, kids were great, adults were absolutely disgusting. No wonder we struggle for refs.
Every month this year, I intend to give away a full class set of one book via @ANewChapterBks - I truly believe a full class set is one of the most valuable resources a teacher can have when teaching reading.
No faff to enter, just retweet and consider yourself in.

โWhen youโre raped there is shame, and itโs not for us to have shame, itโs for them. Itโs true that I hear lots of women, and men, who say youโre very brave. I say itโs not bravery, itโs will and determination to change societyโ
