🚨I wrote about ME/CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome). The US has millions of people with it & maybe two dozen docs who specialize in it.

This year everyone's attention has been focused on Congress passing major climate legislation. But at the same time, state legislatures and Governors have quietly passed new climate and clean energy efforts across the country. Long thread of the wins you may have missed in 2022:
Pediatrician here. I want people to know that death by firearm is not rare in kids. In fact, it has been the #1 cause death in this age group since 2020. In 2020 alone, 4300 children died from firearms. That’s equivalent to one Boeing 747 plane crash every month for 9 months.
Holy cow.
Despite all the evidence, @CDCgov is still promoting an exceptionally dangerous practice of leaving isolation at 5 days without a negative test.
>70% of boosted people are still highly infectious at 5 days

There's often a precipitation dipole between SE Australia and California, amplified by La Nina, and that sure seems to be the case in 2022: wettest JFM on record in SE Aus, and driest JFM on record across much of central and northern CA. #CAwx#CAwater
Ready to share the results of our most exciting life project: Lummis (@SarahLummis) and Ibarra (2022). Hailey Lumbarra came a little late, very big (9lbs 2oz) and with a full head of hair on Jan 7th at 7:36pm. Excited also for the new grandmas @plummis123 and @DianaLIbarra!
The LAPD has killed more than twice as many people this year as last year - one of the largest spikes in police homicides of any major city. A police violent crime wave that won’t show up in the city’s crime statistics.
Myth: The risk of death from COVID for younger adults is negligible.
Data: Analysis of 2020 data in Texas shows that COVID was among the leading causes of death for younger adults (age 25-44).

wow 20-ish percent of GRFP folks had a father with a PhD? Really?? And no one is embarrassed about reporting this? No one looked at this & was like "okay fam, we've got the 2 racial groups overrepresented in STEM, predominantly Ivy League schools selected & bias. Gr8 work here."
Thread: A slow weekend turned interesting when a student at Columbia, in response to a tweet suggesting the SAT and ACT were "good, actually" posted this chart.
