After 47 days on hunger strike, the pro-Palestinian prisoners' protest in Britain has entered a serious situation; there is now an imminent danger to life.

Sinn Féin has implored the British Secretary of State, David Lammy MP to directly engage with the pro-Palestinian prisoners and their legal representatives.

The British government must act immediately to ensure that this crisis is resolved before any of the young people die, or incur permanent harm to their health and well-being.

The human and legal rights of the prisoners must be fully respected, including their need for unrestricted access to medical care.

Tonight was extremely chaotic. All morning, we were inundated with calls from people checking whether the soup run would still go ahead despite the orange weather warning. It was really difficult tonight, we couldn’t load the tea and coffee stand because all the cups were blowing away. Trying to keep everybody underneath the roof of the GPO proved to be very difficult.

We made sure to stock up knowing the alert was issued early while we were out doing our collections. We stocked up on sleeping bags, tents, hygiene bags, hats, gloves and scarves - and we gave everything out. We tried to prioritise the rough sleepers, to get them to a safe place and keep them dry. It was extremely difficult to keep the tables steady and to keep the food and other items from falling. The table clothes were blowing away and the tables were lifting as we tried to maintain some kind of dignity in the queue.

It was a horrendous night and every volunteer was soaked to the bone. We were fortunate to go back to warm homes and we dread to think of what we left behind.

Tonight we’d like to give a huge shoutout to our amazing volunteers - especially our van driver - who was out on collection since last night and since 8am this morning and only arrived home now. He worked all day in the storm to facilitate all collections including the hot food from the restaurants. Once the soup run was over, he emptied out the van and brought all our stuff back to our store room. A huge shout out tonight to Michael and our amazing team.
