@gmustudentsays@cfuchstv This was an interesting read as I was not aware of some of the new discoveries around dinosaurs. I am not a huge fan of action movies like JP and 65, but I recognize the impact they have on Hollywood. My dad is a huge JP fan and we quote it all the time, lol
@cece_304@cfuchstv This was very well written, Cecilia! It is incredibly important for people to see themselves represented in media. I appreciated you including some film recommendations. I am intrigued to watch them and learn more about the struggles of this particular group! Thanks for sharing!
@Chokoev17@cfuchstv I find Wes Anderson's color pallet intriguing, b/c they are colors that are not used frequently in films, especially yellow. It is a very identifiable trait in many of his films. I appreciate the photos that you included, they made this a fun read! Well done, Beck.
@EJChicky @cfuchstv EJ, it is interesting how he was able to create unique films all in the same iconic genre. I love the graphic of the similarities with Star Wars. I am not very familiar with samurai films, but the pics you included make me want to add some to my watch list! such a fun read!
@NWGMU @cfuchstv Such an interesting read! I personally find it refreshing to see such a supportive spouse playing an active role in a player's life. I can only imagine the joy it brings him. The media is quick to pit women against each other b/c of sexist stereotypes, which is so harmful.
@restisc0nfetti@cfuchstv Alissa, I really enjoyed reading your thread. I was aware of some of the negative tropes but learned more. I personally really enjoyed Bottoms. I didn't realize until watching it how much I was craving that kind of representation both as a queer person and film lover.
@NWGMU @cfuchstv Thank you Nataly! I remember learning about this for the first time, prob in high school, thinking, "there is no way this is such a problem." Little did I know!! I enjoyed learning about how filmmakers are already combatting the male gaze as well #304F23
@MaynardMar25163@cfuchstv Thanks Mariah! I really enjoyed adding the images. I felt like I learned more through them while I was gathering them. It is one thing to read about something and another to be able to visualize it and pick it out from photos and films. #304F23
Instead of unconscious choices that are harmful to women, filmmakers must be cognizant of the impact of their choices. This will create impactful stories that empower rather than objectify women, even when telling stories through a male POV.
One way to reframe this is to ask “what is the purpose of this choice?” Why is the camera lingering on her legs? What is the purpose of objectifying this character? If there is not a purpose, pursue other avenues.
Not the male gaze, but feminist film theory... Can we talk about how skewed the Bechdel test is?? I think about this regularly since it is merely the bare minimum for female "representation" yet many films and books fail it! #304F23@cfuchstv https://t.co/WZtaaRnaUM.
