It was an honor to get to interview @TheresaRebeck for @TDFNYC. One of the most produced playwrights on Bway, she returns to the NY stage this fall with back-to-back shows about trauma & healing with "Dig" @primarystages & "I Need That" @roundaboutnyc.

The new musical, which recently received six Tony nominations, tells the story of the American women's suffrage movement, writes @SarahRebell. https://t.co/4UEI16ItIK
#TDFStages contributor, @SarahRebell interviews @TheresaRebeck!
With two plays opening this season, Dig at @59E59 and I Need That at @roundaboutnyc, Rebeck opens up on how her busy fall.

This piece for @NYTheatreGuide was a fun one!
Thanks @GillianRRusso for the opportunity to nerd out on 1980s and 1950s pop culture in the context of @BTTFBway: https://t.co/zaghleZsx5
I love this essay @SarahRebell wrote for @TDFNYC about how women characters in musicals are rarely valued for their brains. A lot has been written about sexism in musicals, but not specifically about how working women are treated. It’s not pretty.
And sometimes a tweet turns into an article!
Thank you @ravensnook for encouraging me to think more deeply about why smart, ambitious women in musicals are treated so poorly by men:

Which musicals (if any) depict a man supporting and uplifting a woman for professional career accomplishments —not beauty or virtue— and truly meaning it? (i.e. he isn’t just saying so to get into bed with her)

@juanmichaelii @REALJacSantos@kkassal@Theatrely Also, on a related subject…I’d forgotten how much of PIAZZA is in Italian. How interesting that critics don’t seem to take issue w/ “il mondo era vuoto” being in another language but KPOP got a lot of grief for doing the same thing - just in Korean, not Italian. #doublestandards
When @GillianRRusso asked me to write a fun, upbeat piece about @TheTonyAwards by the numbers for @NYTheatreGuide, I came upon some pretty sobering stats:
No non-white woman has won a Tony in either musical writing category (Book or Best Score).
Let's hope that changes on Sunday.
So wonderful to speak with @NYNYbway's set designer and 2023 @TheTonyAwards nominee Beowulf Boritt about his incredibly eventful season, adding Easter eggs to sets, and being visited by Hal Prince's spirit:

@ravensnook So sorry to hear that you experienced antisemitism firsthand in Paris. (Though not surprised... I had a similar experience living abroad in Italy.) I look forward to reading your piece about the show!
'The Thanksgiving Play' is the first #Broadway play written by a known Native American woman to be produced. #TDFStages spoke with Playwright Larissa FastHorse and director Rachel Chavkin on why this show highlighting Native culture has become such a hit!
