Prayers for Matthew and his loved ones. ๐๐ป
A heartbreaking clarification has emerged in the Matthew Mayich situation. ๐
After revealing that the 21-year-old St. Louis Blues prospect has โzero chance of recovery,โ his familyโs attorney, Robert Carey, has now clarified that describing Mayich as being in a coma is no longer accurate.
Carey explained:
โA coma indicates deep unconsciousness and recovery is possible. His body ceased functioning in a fundamental way, and this condition is irreversible.โ
That makes the situation even more devastating than many first understood.
Mayich collapsed during an Arizona State hockey workout on Aug. 20 and has remained hospitalized ever since.
For now, the focus remains on Matthew, his family, and everyone close to him.
Absolutely heartbreaking.

Matthew Mayichโs family has received the update nobody wanted to hear. ๐
According to Robert โRobโ Carey, the attorney representing Mayichโs family, the 21-year-old St. Louis Blues prospect now has โzero chance of recoveryโ after collapsing during an Arizona State hockey workout on Aug. 20.
Carey says he has already interviewed multiple ASU players and is accusing the school of failing to properly investigate what happened. He is calling for members of the hockey staff to be placed on administrative leave while the circumstances surrounding the workout are reviewed.
He also says his firm plans to pursue emails, text messages and video connected to the incident.
ASU has said it is reviewing what happened, but has not publicly accepted the family attorneyโs allegations.
Mayich has remained in a coma since the collapse.
At this point, this is no longer just a hockey story. It is an absolutely heartbreaking situation for a 21-year-old and his family.

Filmed five days ago at Hope Springs Shelter. The man is Robert, 45. Came in to look at dogs. No intention of adopting. Just exploring. Spent thirty-five minutes with a dog named Sam. Four-year-old mixed breed. Surrendered six times. Notes said โextreme separation anxiety" and "inappropriate attachment behavior."
Robert sat with Sam. Played. Sam seemed okay. Somewhat nervous but manageable. Visit ended. Robert stood up to leave.
Sam's entire demeanor changed in an instant. Didn't bark. Didn't growl. Just jumped. Straight up like a child jumping to be picked up. Climbed Robert's body. All four legs wrapped around Robert's torso like steel bands. Face buried deep in Robert's neck. Then went completely rigid. Frozen solid like a statue. Robert tried to put him down. Sam's legs tightened impossibly tight. Claws dug through Robert's shirt drawing blood. Robert tried again. Sam held on harder. Started making this low, desperate whimpering sound. Robert stood there. Sam frozen against his chest like he was welded there. Fifteen minutes passed.
Twenty minutes. Robert finally said to staff:
"I can't do this. ! can't physically put him down and I can't walk away from someone this terrified of being abandoned again. Carried Sam to the front desk. Sam still frozen to his chest. Arms going completely
numb. Signed adoption papers. Drove home with Sam clinging to him. Had to pry Sam's
legs off to shift gears. Shelter director told: "Sam wasn't misbehaving. He was
holding on like someone who's been dropped six times and cannot survive being
dropped a seventh time. Robert couldn't leave because Sam physically wouldn't
release him." Robert sent a video Friday . Sam finally released his grip.
After being in Robert's house for nine hours.
Finally believed it was real. Finally believed he wasn't being abandoned again.
