Excess deaths are up in Canada. 53,741 people to be exact, of which 42,215 are directly attributable to COVID, from Mar ‘20 - Aug ‘22. That’s 7.6% more deaths. The 3rd week of Jan ‘22 was up 27%. A wish for 2023 is that we take better care of each other. https://t.co/mMZTjgMgfX
Health care worker wages are down while privatization is up in #onpoli hospitals. Check out this important blog post by @Leftwords https://t.co/7Y9B5yo73p
Interesting article about two-tier health care in the UK's NHS. Privatization is the product of government policy and can be reversed through investment in public health care and stopping corporate subsidies: https://t.co/u2MRY7CA2S
Anyone who is pissed off about the way the Ontario Conservatives have handled the pandemic & how that has impacted our #HealthCare system needs to find some time for this:
#Ottawa
Judge Koehnen says Ontario has not explained why it was necessary to infringe on constitutional rights to impose wage constraints while at the same time providing tax cuts or licence plate sticker refunds more than 10 times larger than the savings from the wage-restraint measure.
We should all be concerned that profit was allowed to prevail over peoples lives when it came to the COVID 19 vaccine TRIPS waiver: https://t.co/MnJCkqfo7h
This graph shows why school board workers in Ontario need to see a serious wage increase. School EAs, custodians, secretaries and ECEs have seen a loss of purchasing power over the past decade: https://t.co/bOOM8zSJln #39kIsNotEnough#CUPEStrong#onted
Fact check: Ford imposed legislation with an imposed contract and notwithstanding clause before workers even took strike action. It is Doug Ford who is heavy handed, not education workers. #CUPESolidarity#39kIsNotEnough
Katz: This attack on workers was planned, premeditated from the outset of bargaining. There was zero chance workers would ever have right to strike. Govt decided education workers CANT strike, & that contracts would be imposed.
Katz showing quotes by Lecce supporting this.
Now to build solidarity for next week.
Support school board workers in every practical way possible. Their struggle is our struggle, their victory is our victory.
Defend free collective bargaining. Stand in solidarity.

Today, @fordnation introduced legislation to remove the rights of education workers to negotiate a fair deal. Here's the facts:
Education workers earn an average of 39K a year.
2/3 are women.
1/3 rely on food banks to survive.
1/2 have a second job.
They deserve better.
