I haven't posted much on here in . . . years? Largely because my following here was mostly from my journalism days and I wasn't a journalist for the past decade! But after a lot of requests, I managed to get the old PandoMonthly archive back. (Actually Paul did for my 50th birthday). I am reposting them with current commentary in case you have missed them. . . it's a pretty wacky historical record given all that has happened in the past 15 years in tech (and politics!) https://t.co/DOgEfg7ymw
@dav The numbers don't bear the argument out any more than logic does: Enrollment has gone from 195 to almost 400. 20 kids are going to Lowell this year and last year. It's obviously not a "golden ticket" nor is it the "only reason" enrollment is up. ๐
OK when you write one story in seven years you can afford to feed trolls. . .something weird going on in the comments on this on most platforms (instagram and the comments on the site. . .) tell me what this says about SF... https://t.co/NUl2fzuchn
@dav I don't know which is worse!! I think there's actually a third reason. I think there are families who don't want to go to school in Bayview (so I guess under racism bucket) and are mad those kids get a high school advantage. It feels like something is "taken away"
Perhaps no one transformed the startup game more than @ericries and @sgblank in the past 25 years. (Take it from Ben Horowitz https://t.co/3dYH8Qk4V7 ) Next week, Eric is going to do it again with his new book "Incorruptible." OUR STORE HAS IT A WEEK EARLY!
But as someone who doesn't understand the politics or cliques or weirdness around SFUSD. . . I'm more intrigued with . . .why? why is a small group so desperate to invalidate the win here? why does the success of this school in Bayview trigger them so much?
this is obviously false for a lot of reasons, not least, it's always been the case, always known, and the school has only now gotten to full enrollment.
The most expensive public school in SF history, Willie Brown Middle was a "shitshow" when it opened in 2015.
Today, it's one of SF's most coveted schools, and its turnaround can be credited to one great principal.

@sfstandard@adamlashinsky@jonsteinberg It is rare SFUSD gets a positive story; that the city keeps promises to Bayview; that a Black woman in SF gets the credit she deserves this publicly for pulling off something so astounding. So I would be grateful if you shared and amplified ๐
@sfstandard@adamlashinsky@jonsteinberg ONLY year we have ever been in public school. hand down BEST YEAR EITHER of my very different kids have had. I felt the record had to be corrected on WBMS. And as a journalist I wanted to know how they did it. From admitted "sh*t show" to best school we ever attended.
