Is anyone live tweeting this debate? I’m so sad there’s only one. I’ve already worked with Joe so I know he knows what he’s saying. Looking forward :) #NhaCretcheuzinhos
Teachers: don’t be this guy. A brilliant mind like Jayson’s can’t be extinguished or ignored. Fanon is so important. Don’t believe me? I took notes in all your languages so I could tell you the eff why. What is the eff for? #Fanon
As an undergrad double major (philosophy & history), I wrote my thesis on Marx, race, & the environment, but my philosophy advisor said I couldn't use Fanon or "other theorists" to explain or deepen philosophical matters. I never recovered my will to philosophize #BlackintheIvory
Wait, say word??? All it took was a donut for Rhode Island to speak up and stay something? I love it. Can’t wait to show the police why their Black lives matter, since we share this deep love hehehe
How am I gonna explain to my out-of-state friends that the biggest controversy in Rhode Island right now, the issue that has firmly divided the entire state in two, is the local donut shop that rescinded its military and police discount
I support police abolitionists, but I have a lot of learning & listening to do before I can call myself a proper abolitionist. Sound praxis often requires respecting the pioneers, who in this case are Black women. Read them. Reread & be patient w/ yourself. Their ideas are deep.
Colleagues, none of our institutions are prepared for what our Black students, staff, and faculty are going to bring back to them in the fall. Not a damn one. Everything happening in our streets is going to be into our classrooms, in our committee rooms, our departments. (1/n)
It is now ILLEGAL to take a video of uniformed police in Tucson Arizona.
You can now be arrested for taking a video or charged up to $750.
We are slowly losing our basic rights.
I never again want anyone to say theorizing doesn’t lead to change. Black feminist theory and intersectionality informed the creation of black lives matter. We’d never be this close to change without powerful black queer women organizing & theorizing.
Yay! I’m so excited to teach people about how to read texts by persecuted thinkers. I also get to teach them about philosophy, economy, political theory, and journalism! About class consciousness! Quick: Name some of your best friends and classmates in school.
“In 1914 the city of Providence was convulsed with riots. … Ostensibly caused by an increase in the price of macaroni, this predominately Italian immigrant neighborhood was the flash point where Marxists, anarchists and others fanned the frustration” https://t.co/L8EXgTvigo
Chicago officers struck Chicago Police Board President Ghian Foreman five times on his legs with their batons during a protest on Sunday in Hyde Park that turned violent, Foreman told WTTW News. https://t.co/2m6JAU0XVn
UK abolished slavery in 1833 by agreeing to pay slave owners for "loss of property" a sum of £20m (£300bn today), a transferral of wealth from taxpayers to slave owners so huge the debts incurred were only paid off in 2015. Almost all UK taxpayers have contributed to this bill.
Black women fed Chicago this week. I truly do urge you to find some way to support them as individuals in addition to supporting the causes they champion.
