A bit of personal news… I’m the new Senior Producer of Religion & Spirituality at @npr!! Can’t wait for lots of collaborations with brilliant colleagues in and out of NPR!
At a time when so much religion reporting has disappeared, it’s inspiring to hear that NPR is expanding its coverage of religion and spirituality with 2 new hires! Welcome @burkedaniel13 and @sarazonah
Still looking for folks who have sought repair with a friend or family member or other dear one around the High Holidays. I want to hear how you went about the difficult process of trying to make it right, whether or not it worked. Message me at [email protected] if this is you? 🙏
Working on a story for NPR about atonement at Yom Kippur. Specifically looking for folks who engage in a process of repair around the holidays, and/or those who are working to make amends with someone complicated in their life or who have done this before. Lmk if this is you!
At the @RNS 90th anniversary symposium…and “cults” came up before 10:30 AM!
Interestingly, it was brought up in the context of Nones. In my experience this is not often how NRMs are framed. Rather, they’re often talked about the same way as we talk about the “ultra” religious.
Hi internet -- I need your help again! Trying to compile a list of the best feature length (ideally no longer than 7ish mins) radio stories about religion. What have you loved? What have you learned from? What stuck with you? #religionjournalism#godbeat#reallygoodradio
Wanted to share a side project I’ve been working on.
It’s a sign of how much these stories have meant to me that in between election- year madness I made time for it!
So hope you will too (coming this fall!)

Really fascinating article from Peggy Fletcher Stack. I know some of this work has been done on other faiths too...curious if anyone knows if it's aggregated anywhere, or if there's comparative data?
Researchers find that some LDS women choose cosmetic surgery as part of their impulse toward "perfectionism." Have you seen that?

NEW from me: Five faith faith facts about Harris's VP pick Tim Walz, a ‘Minnesota Lutheran’ Dad who, if elected, would be the second (or, maybe, first) Lutheran VP in U.S. history https://t.co/jj4fgfBPpJ
@ReligionReport@skestenbaum If you haven’t already, give it a read. @skestenbaum is an amazing reporter and a beautiful writer. (And this one comes with gorgeous photos by another friend of mine, Victor Blue.) Here’s to more meaningful and messy conversations! /end

Belatedly read @skestenbaum’s cover story in Harper’s, there is so much THERE there! I was struck in particular by this passage that I’m still trying to tease out, particularly in the context of a number conversations I’ve been fortunate to have with Sam over the years. 1/
@ReligionReport@skestenbaum . @skestenbaum & I don’t always see eye to eye on approaches. But I’m grateful that we take each other’s work seriously enough that we can really engage in the messiness of it all. His piece has given me lots to think about (much of which isn’t even mentioned in this thread). 12/
