Transparency in medicine: I worked 100 hours in the last 7 days and 56 of those hours occurred in the last 76. When residents say they’re tired the solution should not be “go to bed early” or “sleep longer on post-call days” or even better “it makes you a better doctor”.

Life of a surgery intern… 13 hours into my 28 hour shift and I’ve had a bag of chips to eat so far

In the last 6 days, I’ve worked 3, 28 hour shifts in the hospital. This is not healthy. It’s difficult to care for others when we don’t have the energy to care for ourselves.

Worked 56 hours this weekend with back to back 28 hour call shifts. It was hard, I’m exhausted, but I still don’t feel like I worked a single minute.

Was feeling sorry for myself that I was 15 days in to a 22 day work streak in the SICU. Then I remembered that I’m a f**king surgical resident and that I’m living my dream. Doesn’t mean it’s not hard, just means it’s worth it.

Not me buying fun scrub caps to help look more put together and less bed-head sleep deprived 6 weeks into intern year. But honestly, have the coolest job. So worth it.
