Transgender surgery is like the abandoned practice of frontal lobotomy, according to prominent US plastic surgeon Dr Scot Glasberg.
He suggested the argument for stopping under-19 trans surgery was the same for lobotomies—“there was no evidence to show that [these interventions] were of any benefit, and we were harming people in the process”.
He also cited the recent comprehensive Finnish registry study which found that the psychiatric needs of young people increased after gender medical treatment.
Dr Glasberg said this study was important because it highlighted the risk that “it actually could be worse for these children” after gender transition. “I thought, this is pretty telling.”
Dr Glasberg is a past president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons which earlier this year became the first major US medical association to adopt a policy advising against the gender medicalisation of adolescents.
He was speaking at a London conference on “Rethinking Youth Gender Medicine” hosted by the Society for Evidence-based Gender Medicine and the Clinical Advisory Network on Sex and Gender.

A neuropsychologist who went looking for evidence that puberty blockers were safe for children’s brains found “absolutely none”. She says Australia needs to reckon with that uncomfortable truth. https://t.co/zTyfVHxKco via @australian
Julie Buchill's 2013 rant about troons (the one that got her banned from writing for the Guardian) has re-emerged. It would be terrible if people today were to read such bigotry, so please don't share the link with anyone

2013: I messaged @suzanne_moore and said, "Trouble at mill, sister". 'Why', she asked? "Julie Burchill has defended us in the Observer and all hell is going to break loose!" Guess what happened next? https://t.co/CqM9nfTDSP
I am having a drink this evening with a friend in a Chiswick pub. Two policemen have just come into the pub and asked me to step outside. I have stepped outside and they have threatened me because I tweeted about a councillor banning seating outside pubs in Chiswick. They admit on video (watch it!) that I did not break the law at all. They came to threaten me. To warn me off tweeting about councillors and the council. This is modern Britain. This is the police state. Please, please, please watch this video. It does involve me using very bad language, but this has got to be seen. Police coming out to threaten someone who hasn’t committed a crime. I’m fuming.
Would we allow Hitler to be a commentator on the ladies tennis at Wimbledon?
Or to take a selfie with the Queen?
Or to be the President?
Or to broadcast live on TalkTV?
Or to be a director of a registered charity?
Isn’t it time to have ZERO TOLERANCE for transphobia 🏳️⚧️
BREAKING: Supreme Court upholds state bans on transgender athletes in girls’ sports, delivering another major blow to LGBTQ rights. https://t.co/TyYRKsyrNf
"They're autistic." "They're gay." "They've been abused."
These are the same tired assumptions used to explain away trans people's identities.
Trans children are not a problem to be fixed. They deserve to be listened to, supported, and allowed to live as themselves.

X - I need your urgent help.
My new film 5 SOLDIERS is due to screen at Hereford Military Festival at The Courtyard on Sunday 27 September.
It has been on sale since 7 May.
I have just been told it has sold ZERO tickets.
Zero.
This is a film about soldiers’ bodies, training, injury, courage, fear, comradeship, trauma, recovery and service. It was made after years of working with soldiers, veterans and military families. It is not party political. It is humane, serious and, I believe, necessary.
If we cannot sell tickets, the screening may not go ahead.
So I am asking directly: please help me save this screening.
Buy a ticket. Bring someone. Share this. Tag anyone in Hereford, the Armed Forces, veterans’ networks, military history circles, dance, film, culture or anyone who believes that art about soldiers still matters.
Zero tickets is not normal.
Let’s change that.
Hereford, Sunday 27 September, 2.30pm.

Margo Leadbetter was snobbish, humourless and entitled, & Penelope Keith managed to make her into one of the most adored (and oddly vulnerable) characters ever seen on a sitcom. She delivered every line as if it were a jewelled crown on a velvet cushion. An utter genius.
At one point, when talking to the police officers yesterday, they explained they may not be able to deal with the threat, to cut my throat, immediately because they had a specific task that centred around violence against women and girls in Hyde park and so might need to take a statement later.....
Not even joking.
One of the most thought provoking speeches I've seen in a while.
@Miss_Snuffy on how raising a generation to see the world through oppressors and the oppressed is changing the West.

If it were a "trans changing room" there would be no legal case. It was a women's changing room, used unlawfully by a man. @BBCNews some journalists you are.
