Avoiding formal support for an opposition leader is reasonable when the public has not demanded it.

But when millions risk their lives gathering to chant that name, when hundred thousand Iranians are killed and thousands imprisoned and executed, and when people write the name in blood on the streets, then acknowledging the public’s will becomes necessary.

People will talk of “installing a leader” either way, but what matters now is what the people want.

• Declare a no fly zone

• Arm the Iranian people (not separatists in provinces, but rather residents in big cities)
• Do not use the uprising as a way to enter worthless negotiations
• Boost the Shah of Iran when he gives instructions, because he is the only one Iranians will follow, and his word carries all the weight.
