Furthermore, halting operations under current conditions forces the leadership to openly concede failure on its most foundational wartime promise: the guaranteed, absolute safety of northern settlers.
With tens of thousands of northern settlers still evacuated and a resilient resistance maintaining its cross-border capabilities, any withdrawal would be heavily weaponized by domestic critics.
To the Israeli public, a ceasefire without a total security guarantee up to the Litani River would not be seen as a truce, but as a historic strategic defeat.

This military gridlock directly mirrors Netanyahu’s internal fight for political survival.
The current governing coalition hinges entirely on the support of far-right ministers like Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, who view any cessation of hostilities as an act of capitulation.
For Netanyahu, stopping the war triggers the immediate collapse of his coalition, forcing early national elections that current polling indicates he would decisively lose.
Yet, the alternative path, pushing deeper into an endless war of attrition without clear, achievable political objectives, promises mounting casualties for Israel’s army, economic exhaustion, and a cascading internal crisis.

Ultimately, this paralyzing domestic dilemma creates a dangerous geopolitical crisis for the United States.
The Washington administration, under Donald Trump, now faces a highly volatile Israeli leadership that is structurally disincentivized from pursuing peace.
While Netanyahu is forced to prolong the conflict to preserve his political survival, allowing this multi-front war to drag on indefinitely directly endangers American strategic assets, threatens regional stability, and places U.S. personnel throughout the Middle East in immediate danger.
