To begin our #NationalCanoeDay celebrations, we first recognize the #canoe's origins. 🛶
🙏 We express our gratitude to the Indigenous Peoples, cultures, and communities who birthed canoes in all their forms and, to this day, are continued innovators of these watercraft.

It's getting cold(er) out there, #yxe!
Lets look out for one another; share these locations with fellow community members who may be in need of a safe space to keep warm.
A team of CCM staff are celebrating an incredible milestone in the behind-the-scenes process of preparing the 600+ canoes and kayaks in the Museum’s collection so they can be moved to their new home.
On December 10th, the team prepared their 200th canoe for transfer!
#FunFactFriday features the #HayesRiver in #Manitoba. Robinson Falls is a well-known spot where a series of five waterfalls force a violent torrent of water through massive slabs of granite rock
The water is super cold and I definitely don't recommend heading out on the water without being dressed for immersion and without the skills to rescue yourself in these conditions.
Here's how I dress:

On Thursday afternoon I got out on the South Saskatchewan River for a paddle (wearing drysuit). There was a breeze but it was pretty calm on the west side of the river. We had a beautiful snow just before with huge wet flakes.

He's a self-described bug-lover! This morning @usaskbiology professor Iain Phillips will share some of his enthusiasm for the insect world with us. Also, enjoy this great article from CBC's @hark_a_julia.

What a day, what a weekend, and I'm not done yet! From Friday afternoon through this afternoon I've been joining my good friends Jeff and Lauren helping with Jeff's Kayak Hoedown for the @stooncanoeclub. It was a ton of fun! So many paddlers eager to play on and IN the water!
