NEW: A federal judge appointed by George W. Bush has thrown out Justice Department subpoenas targeting Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and his allies, calling them an abusive and retaliatory effort to punish Walz for refusing to assist Trump’s immigration crackdown.

Judge Patrick Schiltz said there was “no doubt” the subpoenas were issued to damage Walz, writing: “Initiating a criminal investigation in order to harass political opponents or to coerce them into taking official action — particularly official action that the federal government cannot directly require those political opponents to take — is a blatantly unlawful and unethical use the grand-jury process.”

BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV enrages MAGA world by boldly calling for universal healthcare and for food to be provided to the entire world.

These Republican so-called Christians are up in arms...

"It is important to resist the commodification of basic human needs. Food, water and healthcare cannot be subordinated to market considerations or geopolitical interests," Leo wrote on X.

He included a link to an article about his visit to the Headquarters of the World Food Programme whose work the pontiff said is "deeply in tune with the mission of the Catholic Church."

The responses from conservatives on X were predictably deranged. Trump's decision to mark the Pope as an enemy due to his opposition to the Iran War has convinced many MAGA supporters that Leo is literally the antichrist — despite their cult leader far better fitting the biblical descriptions.

Some accused Leo of not understanding what a "commodity" is while others screeched that they refuse to pay for his "communist" proposals. Never mind the fact that these people claim to be followers of Christ, who constantly urged his followers to feed the hungry and tend to the sick. Several accounts hurled vulgar, sexual insults that we'd rather not repeat.

Instead, we'll share the rest of Leo's message...

"Access to adequate food is a fundamental human right grounded in the dignity of every person. Meeting this need not only alleviates suffering but also addresses underlying causes of geopolitical instability," he continued. "Indeed, food security is an essential component of global and integral security."

"I wish to appeal to the governments and peoples of the world to renew and strengthen their commitment, to increase the resources dedicated to combating hunger and its root causes, and to remove the obstacles that prevent aid from reaching those in need," Leo added. "At the same time, such support should also strengthen engagement with the Church and civil society. Reinforcing the capacities of all these actors together will multiply our collective effectiveness in the fight against hunger."

This is what true moral leadership sounds like. The nations of the world have more than enough wealth to wipe out hunger for good, but instead we're allowing corrupt oligarchs to buy up more super-yachts and mansions. The fact that Elon Musk is now a trillionaire while children starve to death around the world is utterly inexcusable.

The Lessons I Learned from My Dad

I am not the man my father is.
I am trying. Some days closer. Some days farther.
He never sat me down and explained these lessons. He lived them. I’m still learning them.

Show up.
The kitchen table. The hospital room. The funeral. The picket line. The call from the son who won’t answer.
Show up.
Most days that’s the whole job.
My whole life I watched him do it. Not for cameras. Not for headlines. Not because there was something in it for him. He showed up because someone needed him.

I learned that grief doesn’t make you special.
My father buried a wife and daughter. He buried a son. Yet he never treated grief as a claim on other people’s sympathy. Instead, it made him notice theirs.
A mother who lost a child. A father sitting beside a hospital bed. A kid scared about what comes next. A son who lost his mother, his sister, his brother.
He always noticed.

I learned that power is not the point.
The people who chase power eventually confuse the office with themselves.
My father never did.
Whether he was a county councilman, a senator, vice president, or president, he was the same man.
The title changed.
He didn’t.

I learned that family comes first.
The train from Wilmington wasn’t symbolism.
It was every night.
He read to us. Showed up to games. Sat through hospital rooms. Waited up for children who were lost.
And when the day came that the country and the family could not both have him at full strength, he chose family. He relinquished the last chapter of how he wanted to be remembered. And he never complained about it.

Most of all, I learned that love is not soft.
Love is discipline.
Love is showing up at one in the morning when nobody is watching.
Love is answering the phone.
Love is staying.
Love is getting back up after life knocks you down and doing it all again tomorrow.
That love saved my life.
I’ve failed at many of these lessons, sometimes in very public ways.
He loved me anyway.

That’s the last lesson.
I am not trying to become my father.
I am trying to carry what he gave me.
And if I can do that, even imperfectly, that will be enough.
