She was the social worker. Then she treated two MorseLife patients like an ATM.

Megan Elizabeth Bernat, 46, of Port St. Lucie, spent years as a licensed clinical social worker and care manager at MorseLife in West Palm Beach. Families handed her the people who could not watch their own accounts. West Palm Beach police say she used that access to feed her Capital One card.

One victim was an Alzheimer’s patient identified as S.M. Detectives found 55 payments from that TD Bank account to Bernat’s card from February 2023 through June 2025. Total: $68,540. The woman had dementia, bad vision, and no kids in the fight.

The second victim was a 92-year-old man with dementia in the same building. Police say 30 payments totaling $31,295 hit that same card. Seven of those ran after he went to hospice. Six ran after he died on March 15, 2024.

That is almost $100,000 off two people who needed a caregiver, not a collector. Bernat was first arrested in September 2025. Arrested again in July on the second case. She pleaded not guilty on the deceased patient. She has not entered a plea on the Alzheimer’s case. She also ignored the Florida Department of Health complaint, so the licensing board yanked her social work license last week.

You do not get to empty an old woman’s account and keep charging a dead man’s card because you had a title on the door. Florida has a name for that. Exploitation. Keep the cases moving. 🇺🇸

They and many others are good people with zero bad backgrounds and till today I am dumbstruck as to why they we're found ineligible because me and my brother have lived the same life but im here and he was denied.
