India's #sugar policy has taken a dramatic turn in just a few months.

- Sugar exports were allowed despite lower production.
- In February, an additional 5 LMT of sugar exports was permitted.
- In May, sugar exports were suddenly banned.
- Domestic sugar prices continued to rise.
- In July, the government ordered the physical verification of sugar stocks held by sugar mills.
- Now, the government has imposed stock holding limits on sugar dealers.
- No sugar dealer can hold more than 4,000 quintals of sugar in stock or retain such stock for more than 30 days.

In just a few months, India has moved from allowing sugar exports to imposing stock holding limits to curb hoarding and speculation.

Who is accountable for such a sharp policy reversal?

Who misled the Food Ministry about the country's sugar production and stock position?
