Recently, a close family member visited a place that was very hot. She had to be out under the sun for hours with very little water readily available to drink.
She returned back to Bangalore and fell sick.
The doctor said that she has lost body salts. Once that is set back in balance, her recovery would be fast.
I thought of sharing the learnings that I had from the experience.
When you sweat a lot and lose body salts (electrolytes like sodium), your body can experience muscle cramps, dizziness, and extreme tiredness.
If you only drink plain water without replacing the lost salt, your blood can become too diluted, leading to a dangerous condition called low blood sodium.
Signs of Salt and Water Loss
Muscle cramps: Painful tightening in your legs or arms.
Dizziness and headaches: Feeling lightheaded or unsteady when you stand up.
Nausea and weakness: Feeling sick to your stomach or unusually tired.
Fast heartbeat: Your heart beats faster as your body tries to keep blood flow steady.
What Happens Inside the Body
Fluid imbalance: Your cells do not have the right mix of water and minerals to send nerve signals.
Low blood sodium (Hyponatremia): Drinking too much plain water after heavy sweating dilutes the remaining salt in your blood, which can cause confusion or severe sickness.
Key Mental Effects
Brain Fog: Trouble thinking clearly or focusing on tasks.
Confusion: Feeling lost or not knowing where you are during severe loss.
Dizziness: Feeling lightheaded or unsteady when standing up.
Low Energy: Feeling very tired, weak, or sleepy.
Why This Happens
Low Sodium: Blood needs a safe level of salt to send messages through your nerves.
Low Water: Sweating lowers your body fluid, which slows blood flow to your brain.
How to Recover Safely
Drink electrolytes: Use a sports drink or an oral rehydration salt (ORS) mix to put back the sodium and minerals you lost.
Eat salty snacks: Pair a small salty snack with water or coconut water to help your body hold onto the right amount of fluid.
Here is a quick recipe you can make at home and practical hydration tips for heavy exercise.
🍋 5-Minute Homemade Electrolyte Drink
This simple recipe gives you the right balance of water, natural sugars for energy, and salt to replace lost sodium.
Ingredients:
4 cups (approx. 1 litre) of water
1/4 teaspoon of salt (provides sodium)
1/4 cup (approx. 60 ml) of fresh lemon or lime juice (provides potassium and flavor)
2 tablespoons of honey or pure maple syrup (provides easily digestible carbs for energy)
Instructions: Warm a small amount of the water slightly so the honey/sugar dissolves easily.
Stir the salt and honey into the warm water until completely dissolved.
Pour in the remaining water and the fresh lemon juice.
Mix well and chill in the fridge before drinking.

Can anyone who has played professional football explain to me how an Argentinian team just sleepwalks through a final suddenly. Can't only be because Spain was brilliant. It's possible to understand a sudden drop in form in individual sports, like tennis, but how does it happen to ten people, and in such a drastic way?
This is what happens when a team that doesn’t deserve to have qualified to finals reaches the finals, such an unworthy opposition Argentina is that they were decimated in finals #Fifa
BREAKING : FIFA have investigated Argentina after the game for celebrating with a banner referencing the Falkland Islands and asserting sovereignty over the disputed territory.
They have made the decision to fine England for their involvement in the game, Argentina will start the final with a 1 goal lead and Spain will play without a goalkeeper.
Messi is said to be furious that the lead is not enough of an advantage and reiterated that the ruling demonstrates that nothing is handed to them on a plate.
