Even participants without a formal Alzheimer’s diagnosis showed that elevated gut inflammation correlated with poorer memory and lower cognitive scores. The researchers suggest that chronic gut inflammation may increase intestinal permeability, allowing inflammatory molecules to enter the bloodstream. This systemic inflammation can then compromise the blood-brain barrier, leading to neuroinflammation and neuronal damage.
