A watch-sized gold ring was gifted to President Trump this week from a Belgian diamond group, months after it won tariff relief.

Isidore Mörsel, president of the Antwerp World Diamond Center, presented the ring to Bill White, the U.S. Ambassador to Belgium, to give to Trump. Mörsel said the piece was gifted on behalf of the centuries-old diamond community in the Belgian port city.

"A very special thank you to my friends from Antwerp for the magnificent Freedom 250 ring," Trump said in a prerecorded video message during an event marking America's 250th birthday in Brussels

Some U.S. ethics experts say the president has broken with the decades-old custom in the White House to avoid accepting such gifts. The fate of the ring is not currently clear.

The Trump administration just killed a federal program that hundreds of small farmers relied on to survive, and the damage is already landing.

The program paid farmers full market price for their crops, then routed that fresh food to food banks and the families who needed it. 

In California alone, it supported roughly 870 farms across more than 50 counties, moved 23 million pounds of food, and put over $60 million directly into local economies. For many, it was the most reliable buyer they had.

Then the White House pulled the plug, right as farmers were buying seeds for spring. Contracts already in motion were canceled mid-delivery. Three years of funding these growers had planned around vanished overnight.

Without those federal dollars, the future is more uncertain than ever for these farms and the millions of hungry families they feed. 

That is the pattern. Slash a program that feeds seniors and supports farmers, save almost nothing, and call it winning.

“Elon Musk has now become the world’s first trillionaire, a year and a half after sentencing many of the globe’s poorest to certain death or abject suffering by his ketamine-fueled dismantling of USAID.

I write about this often because it is so devastating to me personally. I know many good hearted folks who dedicated their lives to serving the Global South through our country’s aid organizations and their partnerships abroad, who rather selflessly served (when compared with what equivalent skillsets would earn in the private sector) the mission of soft diplomacy by implementing our nation’s institutional wealth and scientific advancement for the betterment of humanity.

The folks I know who lost their jobs believed in the mission and believed in America, they were forced out for no other reason than human rights and the dignity of the world’s poorest fell out of favor with the current administration.

What they had dedicated their lives to over many decades was essentially destroyed in a weekend by an overgrown adolescent who is now wealthier than anyone in human history.

The fact that Elon Musk would be seen to be out of his mind by any true measure of sanity is almost beside the point; after his destructive reign playing politician and riding shotgun with Donald Trump at the beginning of his second term, Elon has now set his sights on fomenting discord in Great Britain and much of Western Europe.

We saw the results of his racism and xenophobic flame throwing at the anti-immigration riots in Belfast a couple of weeks ago, which were stoked by well-funded online agitprop.
