This election was a clear vote for the BJP, with genuine voters decisively rejecting the TMC.

Now, the TMC and a section of the media are attempting to attribute the BJP’s victory to SIR. But the data tells a very different story.

Of the 207 seats won by the BJP, the victory margin in more than 170 seats exceeded the total non-ASD deletions. In over 130 seats, the winning margin was greater than 20,000 votes, hardly the outcome of any marginal adjustment.

The verdict cuts across social and regional lines:

- The BJP has won 12 seats with more than 40% Muslim population, including 4 where the Muslim population exceeds 50%. All of these are from the Maldah and Murshidabad regions.
- In the Kolkata Urban Area, the BJP has won 35 out of 45 seats, up from just 1 in 2021 and 4 in 2024. Within the KMC region, the BJP has secured 10 out of 16 seats, compared to 0 in 2021 and 2 in 2024.

The Lok Sabha segment-wise performance further underlines the scale and spread of this mandate:

Understand how propaganda works.

-In the afternoon, @abpanandatv ran fake news claiming that BJP got 909 votes at a booth where there were only 772 registered voters.

-Abhishek Banerjee picked it up.
-Kejriwal and all the other clowns started outrage.

When the facts were checked, it turned out that the booth had 1109 votes.

ABP apologised, but by then, the damage was done.

The fake news is now viral everywhere, from X to Facebook to Instagram. People will remember the fake news, but hardly anyone will see the correction.

This is how propaganda works.

You spread misinformation, let the ecosystem amplify it, issue an apology when caught, and move on.

I don't believe this was a simple mistake by ABP. It looks like a deliberate hit job to create outrage and give the Congress ecosystem more ammunition to attack the Election Commission.

Let’s assume that, at this moment, even a single vote in the Rajya Sabha is extremely important.

But what is the price of that one vote?

₹2,30,000 every month?

A Rajya Sabha MP gets ₹2,30,000 a month combining salary, constituency allowance and office allowance:

Salary — ₹1,00,000
Constituency Allowance — ₹70,000
Office Expense Allowance — ₹60,000

And of course, there are several other benefits on top of this. ₹2,30,000.

The idea, surely, is not that this money is paid simply to turn up in Parliament and press YES or NO on a particular bill.

It is rather unsettling to think that someone could receive this amount every single month essentially while waiting for the occasional moment when their vote is needed to support a Bill.

And, presumably, there would be plenty of other ways in which the party would expect that political capital to be used.

People expect more.

They expect their MP to speak against fake news, defend the party’s narrative, speak up for nationalists on issues that matter to the country, and most importantly—be present on the ground.

The expectations are even higher when the MP is a celebrity.

During Durga Puja and Kali Puja, being seen alongside BJP workers in Bengal, among ordinary people, out there in the field—that too is a part of political responsibility.

I hope she will turn up at a few puja pandals without charging an appearance fee.

Because the people who put up the flags, paint the walls and work on the ground deserve that little bit of acknowledgement too.

They like seeing their leaders among them.

Otherwise, the calculation becomes rather strange:

₹2,30,000 + privileges.
