It’s been over a week since the passing of a dear compatriot and trailblazer – Dr. Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe – was announced, a reality many are yet to come to terms with.
Beyond being an astute banker, Dr. Wigwe was a visionary, and an embodiment of grit, courage, and success. His impact in the financial services sector across the continent cannot be overstated, as his optimistic outlook and relentless pursuit of excellence contributed immensely to the shaping of the financial landscape of the region, inspiring generations of entrepreneurs and driving economic growth.
His unshakeable belief in the Nigerian – and by extension, the African – project is one we will continue to find inspiring.
As we at @TheTGIGroup join the Access Corporation family in #RememberingHerbert, we offer our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones at this difficult time.
There would never be enough words to eulogize him or console his family, and the entire Access Corporation on this irreplaceable loss, we however pray that God grants the gentle repose of his soul and grants you all the fortitude to bear the loss.
As a partner, under his able leadership, @afreximbank has been supportive and pivotal to our business growth at TGI. I am therefore proud to felicitate with him and I applaud his achievements, as he remains a shining example of an exceptional business leader in Africa.
On behalf of the board, management, and staff of @TheTGIGroup, I wish to extend our hearty congratulations to Prof. Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman, Board of Directors, @afreximbank on his recognition as Forbes Africa Person of the Year, 2023.
This well-deserved recognition could not have come at a better time as it is patently a validation of what we already know of his stellar antecedents in driving growth and development across Africa. His passion for Africa and its people is not only palpable, but contagious.
Our delegation included our GMD Rahul Savara who led the team, our ED and Vice Chairman (Africa) Farouk Gumel, Director of Corp. Affairs Sadiq Kassim, and the Heads of Strategic Partnerships, Corporate Comms and Strategy & Biz Dev (Habiba Sani, Rafiat Gawat and Tanvi Savara).
