A significant success.
Adler promised to cut permitting delays, but made them worse.
Watson promised and actually did it.
This cuts the cost to build, adds supply when we need it, and makes government more efficient for taxpayers. Bravo.

.@mkelly007 joined @FoxNews this morning to support the police contract (which is up for a vote tomorrow) and discuss the police staffing shortage in Austin.

Here are brief highlights from diverse Austin community members—Black, White, Brown, young, old, women, and men—who testified in support of a police contract and our police department.
You will hear tragic stories from victims of violent crime and accounts of horrific wait times for police response, all begging our city council to pass a police contract ASAP.
Please share this with police officers to show them that the majority of the community supports them and advocates for fair compensation & robust support.
This huge turnout of community members is unequivocal evidence that the small number of anti-police, pro-crime activists paid to sow hate, distrust, and chaos do not represent the majority of our community. They were able to gain the support of council members in 2020, which led to the failed defund-the-police policy. We must not let these paid agitators further destroy our public safety again.
The next council meeting to vote for the 5-year police contract will be Thursday, October 24. Make sure to either call, email or show up in person to make your voices heard. Let’s finally put the failed public safety policy chapter behind us, once and for all. ✌🏼

Your city council who supported the defund-the-police movement in 2020 contributed to the current staffing crisis: Also, those who failed to pass a contract in 2022 led to over 100 additional police resignations:
Let’s urge them to learn from their mistakes and do the right thing.

🚨 Big win for public safety! 🚨 Today, I passed a unanimous resolution to explore housing options for our Police, Fire, and EMS cadets. This is a critical step toward addressing our vacancies and supporting those who protect our city. Watch my comments in the video below! ⬇️
I didn’t get elected to have 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 on the Austin City Council—I got elected to do the job my constituents asked me to do and deliver real results for our community.
Thanks @cbsaustin & @adelauchida for the interview contrasting myself and my opponent in this race.
Here is my speech to City Council in support of police contract.
My name is Cleo Petricek.
I am someone who witnessed my best friend get shot and killed in front of me when I was a teenager in South Dallas. I became a probation officer because of the crime and neglect I saw in our community.
Here in Austin, we are facing a severe staffing crisis, and I urge you to not make the same mistake you all made in 2020 and listen to 50 loud anti-police activists, pro crime pro chaos anarchists. As we see evidence nationwide including VP Harris flat out rejection of the defund police, demoralization of police movement You answer to the people raising families in this city, working class folks from all parts of austin in high crime areas, people running businesses with rampant crime; we are trying to survive.
For over a year, our officers have been waiting for a new contract. The council’s failure to approve a contract has not only suppressed applicants from wanting to work here but has also increased resignations, with 100 percent certainty more resignations to come if this contract does not pass. These actions have created a significant gap in our staffing levels, and we are now experiencing the consequences of that neglect.
I don’t want to hear that Austin is safe when police response times are at unacceptable & unsafe levels, meaning officers are not responding quickly to priority one calls.
There was a double homicide two weeks ago in South Austin, and it took over an hour for an officer to respond. Despite multiple 911 calls from different people, it took an hour to get police on the scene.
Our city’s safety infrastructure has crumbled. We lack visible police presence around our lake and in our neighborhoods, which contributes to an environment where crime can flourish. Critical units like Violent Crime, Homicides, and even Traffic Units are understaffed. Detectives are overwhelmed, juggling double caseloads while also being pulled to cover patrol shifts. This compromises their ability to provide the focused attention our community deserves in serious investigations.
We must understand that this demoralization is not just numbers on a page; it affects the lives of those who serve us. Officers are leaving, and fewer individuals are willing to join the force. The current environment sends a message that being a police officer is undesirable. Instead of virtue signaling about community policing, we need real commitment and support for those who protect us.
The time has come for action. We need a stable four-year contract that provides our officers with the assurance they need to serve effectively. This will not only bolster our police force but also restore community trust. We can rebuild a proactive police presence, ensure critical units are fully staffed, and ultimately make Austin a safer place for everyone.
Let’s stand together in support of our police and advocate for a contract that prioritizes our community’s safety and well-being. Thank you.

Dear Lord, protect these young recruits who have chosen a path that demands sacrifice, resilience, and a commitment to protect and serve. Their heroism, both seen and unseen, ensures the safety and well-being of our communities. We are deeply grateful for their selfless service and for being the heroes we can always count on.
