Residents who believe Tower Hamlets streets are for people, not just for cars. We want safer, cleaner, less-polluted neighbourhoods, including School Streets.
Abul Monsur was not at tonight’s council meeting but he remains an Aspire councillor for Lansbury ward. The party did not distance itself from his Holocaust denialism when offered a chance. He must stand down and there must be an election in the ward.
Thanks Cllr Amy Lee for remembering the shameful way Aspire removed the school street at Chisenhale Primary. Pupils protested & petitioned the Mayor. Council officers advised him to keep some restrictions at drop off + pick-up time, with resident exemptions. He ignored it all.
@ShuboHussain @CllrMarcFrancis @CllrSirajIslam@AbdalUllah Removing a school street in the dark of night because they were terrified of protesting primary school children Avoiding scrutiny on social care contracts worth almost £200 million. How did that go? Not well.
One of the most questionable things about Mayor Rahman's decision to raid NCIL funding is that the Isle of Dogs, Leaside + Fish Island which have borne the brunt of redevelopment will end up getting even less money for public realm improvements than the pittance he gives them now
WE WON! 🎉
Court of Appeal has ruled that Tower Hamlets decision to remove Liveable Streets in Bethnal Green is UNLAWFUL
Councils can't just tear out schemes without Mayor of London's approval.
This is a MAJOR precedent for London boroughs.

@WGDavies111@TH_Labour Sincerely hope all parties can get behind this petition. Dangerous driving in Bow is a problem - lots of us have seen crashes and near misses. We need the Mayor to take it seriously.
Live or work in Tower Hamlets? Sign this petition asking the council to prevent dangerous driving on Roman Road. It's at 375 signatures, let's get it to 500 and make sure LBTH council listens: https://t.co/Cp7Je5ZaBk
Excited to sign and share this petition calling for action about reckless and dangerous driving along Roman Road. Please sign if you live/work/study in Tower Hamlets or share if not: https://t.co/3G2ExAoKzl
Back in court today for our final day! Will keep you posted but kind plea to share the campaign far and wide and donate if you can. This work is all done by committed volunteers from the community 🩵

New: Inspectors' report on governance of Tower Hamlets council finds lack of proper scrutiny, a "defensive" and "toxic" leadership culture and internal worries about a "culture of patronage", communities dept statement says.

EXC: Ministers step in over Tower Hamlets. Govt to announce tomorrow it is appointing an envoy to oversee the council, which is run by the controversial mayor Lutfur Rahman. https://t.co/arGRTHafEf
@hoxtonrich Reminds me of Tower Hamlets excuses for removing the Antill Rd filter. Apparently no-one ever drives here anyway, so it wasn't needed in the first place. And yet at the same time, the filter was also somehow having a profound impact on drivers & surrounding roads.
Today marks 10 years since publication of PwC's inspection of Tower Hamlets Council under Mayor Rahman. Its conclusion that the council's governance wasn't capable of preventing failures in its 'Best Value' duty led to powers being taken away. Another Best Value report is now due
Unfortunately the reply to my Full Council
question does not reassure me or residents about addressing road safety issues on Old Ford Rd. These photos residents sent me are from an accident which took place this morning. We need the mayor & Council to make this road safe.
Wow. Tower Hamlets Council are testing out comedy. This is the same council that removed School Streets, exposing primary age children to unnecessary vehicle pollution, just to satisfy a few drivers. Those kids would love to have their say on clean air & the right to breathe.
Join a free workshop focused on clean air with practical tips to reduce exposure and simple but effective yoga breathing exercises.

12 months ago the LGA Team completed its Peer Review of Tower Hamlets Council. The woeful corporate response to its criticisms + @TH_Labour's motion calling for action led to a Govt Best Value inspection team being sent in. It is now time for action to fix this failing governance
Officers have now confirmed local taxpayers' money is being spent on Tower Hamlets Council's legal challenge to the independent Best Value inspection.
Meanwhile, as Mayor Rahman tells everyone this is a stitch up, Opposition @TH_Labour cllrs aren't even allowed to see the report
'Sadly, under Lutfur's leadership...reckless decisions, a refusal to be held accountable, and a political culture that thrives on intimidation and exclusion have taken over.' Tower Hamlets residents deserve better than this.
I have resigned from the Aspire Party. Lurfur Rahman's leadership no longer reflects the values of transparency and accountability we promised to the people of Tower Hamlets. The community deserves better. Full statement below.
This amendment to our motion was a work of fiction. Instead of acknowledging he got it wrong, Mayor Rahman’s cllrs tried to pretend he never agreed to place homeless families even further away. Thanks to @Hussainkabir@OhidAhmedTH and Speaker Khaled for helping us to vote it down
I’ve decided to step down from the Aspire Party. My commitment is to the community and my constituents first, not blind loyalty to any party or individual. Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand the double standards and hypocrisy in policies that betray our residents and voters.
"@LutfurRahmanTH, the mayor of Tower Hamlets, where Matheus was killed, has systematically removed LTN's and School Streets to prioritise motorists. This car-centric policy with no additional traffic calming measures is clearly encouraging drivers to speed around unhindered."
