The cost of #Lambeth's housing mismanagement laid bare. £15.4M in a year.
We first highlighted the cost of disrepair back in 2017: https://t.co/ALIjlCkkPD
If only they had listened.
Watch Manuel speak truth to power in his incisive deputation ✊ He delivered it on behalf of @hfltenants at the latest full @lambeth_council meeting.
As evident by Manuel’s speech, the council’s argument collapses under scrutiny.
The line? Labour-led Lambeth Council must evict dozens of families and vulnerable tenants.
How? Through Section 21 evictions, otherwise known as ‘no fault evictions’, that are soon-to-be banned by current Labour government.
Why? To turn our homes into temporary accommodation for those ‘in most urgent need.’
The issue? That’s exactly who WE will become IF evicted.
The outcome? Dozens of families and vulnerable tenants end up homeless.
So what do you think? Sounds like a sound plan, right? Definitely not immoral, harmful, or anything. Perfectly reasonable to make one group homeless to (temporarily) house another, and then self-congratulate yourself through blatant virtue signalling 👀
Stay tuned for Councillor Adilypour’s response. Spoiler: He did exactly what Manuel predicted he would!
@SaveCressingham@PeoplesAudit We're planning an Oct. Fest event called MUSIC FOR HOUSING awareness-raiser re housing issues in Herne Hill, to include Save Dorchester Court who like u have a gofundme. How do we get in touch? You link to a FB that links to a website with no contact info. Follow us so we can DM?
@gamecounsel Very interesting - 24 days request because 4 days already used by Pines & Needles … does this mean that Xmas trees will no longer be sold in Brockwell Park before Christmas this year if this planning application gets approved? . I don’t think they have told @pinesandneedles
Remember how when #Lambeth set up HFL they said they didn't want to work with developers and that last year they said that they only wanted to work with developers in the short term? Well here they are offering 10-20 year partnerships...with developers: https://t.co/xmS2ObUnN5
How about reflecting on your own actions first:
1. Selling off over 1,000 council homes to the private sector
2. Leaving scores of homes empty on regeneration estates for months, and in some cases, years
@LibDemDonna@GreenPartyScott@pete556@DemolitionsLdn@SaveCressingham
This is their response about HFL. "The vast majority of the recommendations....have been made." Apart from the bits about listening to residents.
Still kicking can down the road about how the debt accumulated by HFL is dealt with
@SaveCressingham@savecentralhill@DemolitionsLdn
This is the council's (non) response to the auditors' criticism of Lambeth's inability to manage budgets. Lots of generic wording with no substance behind it
#Lambeth budget meeting is next Wednesday: https://t.co/Dg58UrVSXt
How can any responsible councillor put their name to budget that has lump sum of £30M in it with no detail of what makes up that figure?
Meeting should be postponed or they should declare they can't balance budget
HfL Tenants got mentioned in @HouseofCommons! It’s official, we’re on the pages of @UKParliament history!
So, why was our case brought up in Parliament?
Here’s a bit of context 👇
🚨 Section 21 ‘no fault’ evictions remain one of the leading drivers of homelessness.
🚫 @UKLabour claims to recognise that and has long proclaimed outlawing ‘no fault’ evictions to be essential.
⚖️ The Renters’ Rights Bill is currently being discussed in Parliament, which, if passed, will finally secure the abolition of Section 21 evictions.
⏳ The bill is expected to come into effect in summer 2025, which has led to many landlords scrambling to evict tenants via Section 21 before it gets scrapped.
Though, here’s the shocking part:
Labour Lambeth Council is currently attempting to evict hundreds of its own tenants via ‘no fault’ evictions, i.e., the very mechanism the Labour Party claims to oppose.
Now, will @LambethLabour double down on its hypocrisy, or will it finally admit it’s made a mistake? Stay tuned to find out!
It’s also rather ironic to have a question about Section 21 come from @FloEshalomi given she’s a Labour MP with affected HfL Tenants living in her constituency, yet she hasn’t addressed our situation once.
What’s that about, Flo? Care to finally acknowledge our existence? Stay tuned to find that out too!

Lambeth council proposing to remove all Key Guarantees from Regen estates, not to be replaced until when and if a landlord offer is drafted… but in meantime demolition still on the table. Why? Reading the fine print in scrutiny document:Lambeth has cash problems @PeoplesAudit
Before #Lambeth go cap in hand to government for more money they might like to explain why they paid a firm of solicitors £13.5M in the last quarter out of the HRA account. The HRA is supposed to be used for looking after people's homes
