@realboshek I suspect this will be part of it down the line. Deferred contracts are a detail, at this point they really are just discussing the framework. None of this other stuff will get discussed until they can decide on cap/no cap.
@SirYacht_ You’re not hoping that the first round pick will be as good as Myles Garrett. You’re hoping that pick will provide you greater value relative to what hes being paid versus what Myles Garrett is paid. It’s not like the Browns were winning games with him.
@BizballMaury This is a good argument for a salary cap. The Dodgers solution to this is to have great players in every spot, so maybe the can't give Ohtani the bat but Mookie Betts isn't bad.
@PhilaBCoulter What could happen is more deferred contracts, but that would mean less cash for players up front which they are generally less willing to do. It’s the exact opposite system of the NFL
@PhilaBCoulter NFL contracts are not full guaranteed, so the Eagles can leverage this by paying big signing bonuses which benefit players because they get more cash up front. This doesn’t work in other sports because those contracts are already fully guaranteed
@PhilaBCoulter Well first, MLB contracts are fully guaranteed anyway so the NFL system probably wouldn’t work. You’re more likely to have the NHL system.
But also, aren’t the owners famously criticized for being cheap? Why would you expect them to out a ton of cash down up front?
