Most of these contracts will last for 15 years. It will not just be our parents who will be locked in paying the prices of dirty, destructive, and expensive energy.

🧐 Furthermore, the majority of Meralco's contracts rely on coal directly sourced from powerplants that Meralco itself owns or holds majority shares. This is illegal and violates the competitive selection process that supposedly secures cheap electricity for consumers.

🏭 The majority of the energy that Meralco supplies is from imported fossil fuel whose prices are subject to the volatile global market on top of being destructive to the environment.

SAVE Ph Lead Convenor, Zyoen Garcia asserted the education sector's pivotal role in the Philippines' efforts to combat climate change. Garcia called on the government to take the lead and compel all schools to shift away from dirty energy towards cleaner renewables.
