Save LACMA™️ draws from an enormous pool of good will towards our treasured encyclopedic museum - allowing it to thrive now and well into the future. #SaveLACMA
Anyone could’ve predicted it, with the type and quality of the glass, the sun hitting it during commuting hours, drivers will be blinded and accidents will happen. Overlooked by @LACity & @LACountyBOS overzealous personal injury lawyers will soon cost us all millions.

“The black disappeared…the concrete went grey, then the curved glass disappeared and the building now looks like something very different indeed. Perhaps an airport terminal. There have been criticisms…its lack of wall space…radical value engineering.”

Yet another massive sculpture by a white male dominating @LACMA’s campus. And it needs hundreds of thousands of gallons of water to keep it alive. If only LACMA leadership can see the symbolism with this. Or maybe they just don’t care.

“The building [@LACMA CEO Michael] Govan has opted for, while impressive, is materially rigid and conceptually inflexible, with even more stubbornness baked into its DNA than even the most severe of encyclopedic museums.“

@LynnBecker Read The Guardian review where it’s reported @LACMA’s Govan said, about repeatedly drilling and filling in the holes in the concrete to hang the art, “It’s supposed to be like a good pair of old blue jeans that gets better with time.”

@latimes “Asked…how [to] hang art… on concrete [ the @LACMA CEO] was breezy: ‘You can just drill right into the walls. It’s very sturdy.’ [Changing] the exhibit…they would simply fill up those holes and drill new ones, ‘like a good pair of old blue jeans.’”

@rpogrebin@nytimes Where was Peter Zumthor for this unveiling for his presumed design? Probably staying far away because, as he recently stated, “There are no Zumthor details any more.”

“As [@LACMA’s CEO Michael] Govan walked the journalists through the sinuous galleries, he was energetic, full of quotations and anecdotes about Zumthor, his star architect. Zumthor was not there.”

Modern marvel or concrete ‘blob’? Inside LA’s divisive $700m art gallery. Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s new building has been a decade in the making and has long vexed critics, but its CEO hopes to turn things around. By @loisbeckett https://t.co/QXxiDSg3GM
@LACMA@ArchDigest And where was Peter Zumthor during his supposed building’s unveiling? Perhaps he’s staying away as, he once famously noted, ““There are no Zumthor details any more.”

If this was the unveiling of the the Peter Zumthor designed building, then where was Peter Zumthor? Perhaps he’s been a no show because, as he notably said, “There are no Zumthor details any more.”

“Art is long, museums are short” is the @LACMA CEO’s lame attempt to be pithy with the Latin phrase “ars longa, vita brevis” (art is long, life is short), but the unintentional irony is that this structure is shorter than planned due to value engineering.

@ByCHawthorne Come on Christopher, this building is a bust and you know it. Let’s not pull punches, we were promised a spectacular building but will get a subpar mass. @LACMA’s underground garage has a far better fit and finish than this dark, depressing anti-LA above ground tomb.

@KnightLAT Yet another huge piece of art by a white male. And this one will hold 50,000 live plants that’ll need tens of thousands of gallons of water annually. Ironically, this a gift from the Resnicks who are well versed in wasting our state’s water for their financial gain.

@grad_shelb15420@LACMA The quality and the condition of the concrete is abysmal. Stained, uneven and unpolished it looks like an abandoned bomb shelter.
@grad_shelb15420 “The short version of my reaction to the new @LACMA is that it’s…compromised…: a sort of hamstrung Gesamtkunstwerk. It aspires to be a transporting, soup-to-nuts Zumthor ocean liner, with every detail designed by a single hand, but keeps springing leaks.”
