3/3 mainline offers what is found outside church in superior forms: mindfulness, yoga, MSNBC, nature, secular social justice, do it better. What does mainline Christianity offer that nobody else can? Seriously asking, bc I reject evangelicalism but see nothing but dying mainline
1/3 No pastor can protect their flock from Evangelicalism in its current White Nationalist inerrant it’s form—it’s everywhere infecting American Christianity. Instead, mainline churches need to focus on education/discipleship. We failed for generations to offer an alternative
2/3 Mainline churches have offered a weak cerebral faith that does not transform lives. We offer social justice grounded in liberal politics rather than the humility/service of Christ. We offer intellectual tribalism rather than embodiment, vulnerability and community.
Your queer body is sanctified. Your personhood is sacred. Your sex is anointed and your joy is holy. Your grief can start a revolution.
In your tears, know you are beloved.
Thread 1/5 #GenX led #education may be a problem. I’ve got 2 teen boys. Neither one fits the straight line HS to college track, but our good suburban HS is a mill for this thinking and offers no options/answers for my kids. Admin, counselors, etc are all GenX like my wife and I.
I can’t say “humble” is an adjective I’d use to describe my local megachurch, but I can’t complain about the message they are putting out via yard signs this election season. I do wonder if “Be just” amounts to “do justice” which is what Micah 6:8 actually reads.
Listen, the reason Jordan Peterson (and every other Youtube Celebrity) is so popular with Christians is because the Church by and large doesn't do discipleship.
I would pay somebody 2 billion to make sure I never saw another Christian movie (double it if I never have to see Kirk Cameron and/or Kevin Sorbo again)
