I feel like I'm living in a real life South Park episode, @ComedyCentral. The @Commanders erased REDSKINS in the name of sensitivity, then chose a name associated with a U.S. military COMMAND that massacred nearly 200 Blackfeet women, children, and elders in 1870. You can't make this stuff up.
The saddest part of the @Commanders is not just that they erased Native imagery from their identity. It is that every June, the NFL knows exactly how to celebrate people's lifestyle, but every November, Native American Heritage Month comes and goes without a single word from the team. No post. No tribute. They erased them from the brand, then ignored the month meant to honor them.
Beautiful music by Mike Comes At Night from the Blackfeet tribe. Chief Two Guns White Calf, who served as the logo for the Redskins for many years, had a rich history and legacy that lives on through the tribe and family.
So amazing to have former Washington Redskins band members come out and play for the family while they visit Washington, DC. A special thank you to Lynn for coordinating this wonderful event with the band!
