When our pilot spotted this magnificent bull elephant with a poisoned arrow wound on his right side, swift action was vital. The SWT/KWS Tsavo Veterinary Unit, supported by our Air Wing provided a rapid response; removing the arrowhead and treating the wound, to give this giant of the plains a second chance.
Thanks to your support, we have responded to more than 3,600 elephant cases, helping these animals when they needed us most.

BREAKING NEWS ‼️
We are disgusted by the decision to grant a five-year whaling licence to two Icelandic companies to hunt fin and minke whales.
Following Iceland's general election last week, three parties are negotiating on forming a coalition government. All have publicly stated they are against whaling. But, the Independence Party and caretaker prime minister have strong ties to the whaling industry and large scale fisheries and they decided to go ahead just days before the new government takes power.
This decision is not only a serious lapse in judgment that will cause immense suffering and negatively impact the ocean ecosystem, but it is also highly unethical for a caretaker government to implement such a conflicting law - especially given its close ties to millionaire whale killer Kristján Loftsson.
As always, we will fight against this horrific decision and stand with the majority of Icelandic people to contest it. Please help us with a donation: https://t.co/NlrTiAzYi1 #StopWhaling #SaveTheWhaleSaveTheWorld #EndWhalingForever
Amazingly, elephant calves are able to stand within 20 minutes of being born and can walk within one hour. After two days, they can keep up with the herd. #fridayfact

Mwinzi’s enjoying a playful romp with Bam and Boozle, our orphaned ostriches - only in Kaluku!Mwinzi’s journey from deprivation to delight is nothing short of remarkable.
With milk always on hand, his true obsession lies with greens. Unlike most orphans his age, who nibble casually, Mwinzi devours his branches with unmatched enthusiasm. His bedroom often resembles a jungle, with leafy greens piled high—and if it isn’t, his temper tantrums make sure the Keepers know! This leafy indulgence has earned him his delightfully plump figure and larger-than-life charm.

Soon we will storm again, we simply cannot let this poor girl take another Edmonton Canadian winter.
Shortly after arriving in sanctuary on 11/9/2017, Nosey was checking out her habitat, breaking trees, pulling out stumps in the dirt, & contemplating her forever home. For the first time in over 30 years she wander for any length of time. All captive elephants deserve sanctuary.
The sun had barely risen over the Elephant Conservation and Care Centre, reflecting its glow on the grounds where Suzy had spent her last days. The air that used to be filled with her trumpet calls was suddenly heavy with silence.
Suzy left us peacefully early morning, with her caregiver by her side. Yet, nothing could truly prepare us for the loss of such a gentle soul who had touched so many lives.
Today, as we share these photos, we cherish all the memories we have had the privilege of sharing with her.
Thank you all for lending your heartfelt condolences and support in this difficult time.
Here's Suzy, in all her glory!
When you’re the largest land mammal on earth, there’s bound to be some part of your body that’s difficult to access. That can be especially problematic when you feel an itch coming on. Fortunately, elephants are great problem solvers, as you can see here.
Bambi and Maia were standing around the mud wallow when Bambi decided to scratch her bottom and scoot around in the mud, which must have been incredibly satisfying. Maia, for her part, walked over to a tree to take care of some of her own itchy areas. Tree bark is an excellent exfoliator, and is often utilized by the girls to scratch just the right spot. Mud and tree bark – they’re nature’s skin soothing technology.

Elephants have feelings just like us humans.
Noah is a one-elephant welcoming committee (this was filmed in 2023 & we can confirm he’s only grown more self-assured since then)! After sending us his regards, he runs off to Malkia. His mum, Nasalot, is an orphan we rescued & raised from infancy to independence. In fact, she was one of the ‘founding females’ who started our Ithumba orphan herd. Now her wild-born family (she has two calves) is growing up in the wild, happy & confident as they should be! Meet more members of our family tree: https://t.co/gAYG28HymE
