Earth Day proved that ordinary people can change the world. Today, we face a new challenge: the health of our land. Let us honor the movement’s history by securing our future.

A flower can’t bloom without healthy soil. This year's official art is a reminder that the planet’s beauty is in our hands. Let’s nurture the living soil that brings beauty to everyone's life.

Water in the soil is the lifeblood of our food systems, yet tracking it globally is a massive scientific challenge.
Recent research has highlighted how different technologies—from satellites in orbit to sensors in the ground—can often give us contradictory signals. By analyzing 23 different global datasets over four decades, scientists are working to bridge these gaps.
The findings show a complex story: a general long term drying trend, but with surprising shifts toward wetter conditions in the last decade. This reminds us that soil is a dynamic, living system that reacts differently depending on the local environment.
To protect our water security, we must continue to refine how we monitor soil health.

The 12th annual @mangrovephotographyawards 2026 is here again.
Entries are FREE and open to all.
An initiative of @MangroveActionProject , a US‑based non-profit advancing science‑backed, community‑led mangrove conservation and restoration, the awards highlight both the importance and the fragility of mangrove ecosystems through powerful visual storytelling.
Mangroves are not only biodiversity hotspots — they are also vital wetland ecosystems that deserve global protection. The Convention on Wetlands works to safeguard wetlands worldwide: https://t.co/RCASzZQlot
So, share your best wildlife, underwater, landscape, people-focused, and conservation images from mangrove environments. Photographers can enter any of six categories: Wildlife, Underwater, Landscape, People, Threats, and Conservation Stories.

China has proven that we can reverse land degradation on a massive scale.
Over three decades of dedicated vegetation restoration have significantly slowed soil erosion. By turning vulnerable slopes back into forests and grasslands, the average erosion rate dropped by nearly 4 tons per hectare.
However, the job is not finished. As climate change intensifies rainfall, even our greenest landscapes face new pressures. This research highlights that while plants are our best defense, we must continue to prioritize soil health to withstand a changing environment.
When we protect the soil, we protect the foundation of life itself.

True understanding of agriculture deepens when knowledge meets lived experience. With a strong foundation in soil science, this journey moves beyond research into practice, embracing natural farming as a sustainable path for today’s times.
More than a change in profession, it’s a shift in perspective toward working with the soil, not just studying it.
“Such programs don’t just inform—they transform. They fill critical gaps, build capacity, and guide us toward lasting success as farmers.”
