Why aren’t they paying tax?

On the basis of the discussions we had with some of the local parties, we believe the most common reason is simply: they don’t understand that they should be filing and (in most cases) paying corporation tax.

Those figures make no sense if we look at the expenditure:

They should pay tax on the rental income minus expenses of renting out their premises. But it looks like they deduct *everything*, including all staff and office costs. They're underpaying tax, year on year.

The biggest recipient of rent to pay no tax in 2021 was Solihull Conservative Party, which received £53,937 but paid no tax at all. Their accounts make clear something is very wrong:
