1,133 drug-related deaths in Scotland last year is devastating for families.
The SNP have ignored warnings about synthetic opioids for years. Action has been too slow and lives have been lost as a result.
This is the equivalent of having a patient open on an operating table and finding out the surgeon never went to medical school. Incompetent and dangerous.
‘When you’re in the way, call it a day.’ Satire and euthanasia are not natural bedfellows but this is excellent.
The serious message? They want you to feel guilty about being elderly. They want you to feel guilty about being disabled. Don’t feel guilty. We all have a right to life

This will be the 6th PA , they’ll be ‘supervised’ by 3 GPs to assess and manage undifferentiated patients

💯 this👇🏼
People need to ask themselves WHY @DHSCgovuk are willing to pay just about anyone (Pharmacists/ANPs/ACPs/Paramedics/Physios/OTs…) to see undifferentiated patients inadequately/unsafely etc, BUT REFUSE TO FUND the employment of 1,000s of under & unemployed GPs?
WHY❓
I’m relieved by today’s result on Assisted Dying. MPs are right to be cautious.
But I know that the result will have been painful for many who campaigned for it. I have enormous respect for them.
We agree that we need better end of life care. We can at least unite around that.
No and no, but it would seem what they are doing already is by-passing GP care and patients long term notes with daytime as well as OOHs walk in clinics , and now MOTs when most practices have been doing comprehensive preventative care since the 90s. @BMAScotland@RCGPScotland

Hannah Mary Goodlad who has been an SNP MSP just since May, and immediately made a public finance minister by John Swinney has big plans for reorganisation of The NHS. Has she spoken to those of us at the coalface? Do we know what’s coming? 1/2
We voted down the Assisted Dying Bill today.
This is not a moment for celebration, but for reflection. Too many people fear death and dying because they anticipate suffering - in part because they cannot be confident they will receive the care they need.
If today is to be a positive day, we must all commit to doing better and to delivering world-class palliative care in every postcode.
My full speech on why I voted against the Assisted Dying Bill is below.👇
One thing united everyone in the assisted dying debate – the need to address the appalling underfunding of palliative and social care which inflicts so much avoidable suffering on people with terminal illnesses.
I’ve written this open letter to @andyburnham because every single day at work, I see how much more dignity, comfort, meaning and joy we could enable patients to experience at the end of their life, if only palliative and oscial care weren’t so appallingly underfunded.
I know it is unlikely you will ever see or read this letter, Mr Burnham. But I had to write it anyway.
Because a good death – with as little suffering and loss of dignity as possible – should surely be a basic human right for us all?
The underfunding of palliative care is denying too many people that right.
For far too long, dying people have simply not been a government priority.
You have the power to change that.
As a specialist in palliative medicine, I can only hope and beg you to do so.
Patients are led to believe that seeing a pharmacist is seeking ‘medical attention ‘
Alan Crabtree died as a result .
Stop wasting money on Pharmacy First. Pharmacists aren’t GPs. @andyburnham@YvetteCooperMP#pharmacist#pharmacyfirst#noctor
Many words, many speeches. But this deeply moving, impassioned, plea to @HouseofCommons from Lancashire MP @AshleyDalton_MP - who has stage 4 incurable breast cancer - was simply outstanding: ‘My days may be numbered, but that doesn't mean that I want this chamber to rush through bad law just so I might have a chance to see it or use it’. Mercifully, @UKParliament heeded her courageous warning not to ‘rush through bad law’. Instead, Government must swiftly respond to calls from both Houses, and the Scottish Parliament, for urgent focus on life enhancing palliative care and comprehensive hospice provision. @andyburnham@YvetteCooperMP@CommonsSpeaker@UKHouseofLords@scotgov@GordonBrown@ShabanaMahmood@wesstreeting
Watch in full:
A choice to die is not a real choice when the choice to live with dignity and proper care is not guaranteed.
And when doctors like myself, cannot reliably predict whether someone has six months to live, that uncertainty cannot be the basis for an irreversible decision.
That is why I will vote against this Bill today.
@MedRegoncall1@SaveSurgeries I remember as a JHO it wasn’t even the exam but just the history, old guy “I have a sore lump in my groin” examination showed irreducible inguinal hernia, straight to get the Reg, he takes straight to theatre & fixed him, PAs don’t even understand the significance of their idiocy
@kesleeman@SaveSurgeries The answer to that is to adequately fund palliative care & GP, Macmillan & Marie curie nurses, relying on charity for EoL care is embarrassing
@medicalmodelbri@andyburnham want to expand the role of pharmacies when what this child needed was to be seen urgently not ‘care navigation’ or receptionist triage
