Rumour has it that Cornovii has put in a pre-app for planning to redevelop Shirehall site - demolish and build up to 150 houses. Have the deeds to the site been handed over from SC? All very sneaky and hush hush as usual

John Crowe, member of SOS and son of Ralph Crowe, the architect for Shirehall, is on BBC Radio Shropshire at just after 8.10am on Friday 1st November. He will be talking about the eviction of staff from Shirehall, the decision made by the exec at Shropshire Council

This is fun. At full council last month one of the junior architects on the original Shirehall design team in 1964 (into his 80’s now!) sidled over for a chat, he’d brought some original sketches and a bunch of info with him on the building. Will be tracking him down next week…

Full Council, we believe, will be voting on 26/09/24 on whether to finalise moving out of Shirehall. If this goes through, there is a very real threat that the building will inevitably be lost. This is a call for support to save this iconic building for Shropshire, a landmark.

Shropshire Council is in crisis and has to make £62m savings in the 24/25 financial year. Part of that narrative from the council is that the move from the Shirehall will be accelerated and staff will be moved to alternative accommodation.

To be clear, it is the Revenue budget that is facing the huge funding gap which pays for essential services and day-to-day running costs of the council and its buildings. The Capital budget is for one off purchases or improvements.

Great to see opposition parties in Shropshire pushing for a review of Shirehall and the cost benefits of moving to a new council HQ. We're aware the local Labour party also want to reassess the situation.

Photos of the Emergency Planning rooms aka 'The Bunker' which could be used in the event of a nuclear war and has been used by the Emergency Planning team over the years. Now, the rooms are used for storage. The old building maintenance office still has the jobs board on the wall

A few photos of the police cells in the basement of Shirehall. There's a rabbit warren of corridors and rooms below the surface in the basement. History that cannot be lost!
