Had an hour call with the FTC Commissioner @CSWilsonFTC about COPPA and how it will affect creators and YouTube.
Thank you to Commissioner Christine and her team for taking the time to talk with me.
I'll make a video on everything when I am confident with all the facts.
Heading home now. I’m exhausted. Going to try and get a video out but it may have to wait until tomorrow. Want to make sure I get all my facts straight.
Just wrapped up another FTC meeting regarding #COPPA with @CSWilsonFTC
Thanks once again for allowing me to come meet in person and discuss how COPPA will effect content creators on the platform. We all really appreciate it!
If you’re also interested in submitting your own comment to the FTC, the deadline to do so is Dec 11: https://t.co/o6GXjU6rRa or via email with the subject line “COPPA comment” to [email protected].
3. We believe there needs to be more guidance from the FTC on when content should be considered primarily child-directed, mixed audience or general audience.
2. We support allowing platforms to treat adults viewing primarily child-directed content as adults with measures to help confirm the user is an adult.
In our comment: 1. We ask for clearer guidelines so that creators big and small can comply with COPPA and continue producing quality kids and family content.
Protecting kids & their privacy is important. Today, we submitted our Comment on COPPA to the FTC. We strongly support COPPA & believe it would benefit from updates & clarifications that better reflect how kids & families interact w/ tech today. More here: https://t.co/UakE5EYPJV
YouTube just released a new video I think it's very important to watch. Its talks about #COPPA and the commercial viable concern.

@TeamYouTube how come there isn't a "General Audience" option? For the majority of channels it is a more accurate description, also, #COPPA makes allowances for content aimed at a general audience... What's going on here?
